Well actually I've often wondered... how certain are we that the base gun REALLY IS a Bulldog?
I mean it was ID'd as such years ago... but people have been known to be mistaken.

Thanks Nexus!
I'm seeing discrepancies in all these area's:
Do we KNOW for certain that it was a Charter Arms Bulldog PUG that was used?
How about some pictures of ALL the variants for clarity?
The 13520, 14420, 73520, 74420 and 74421 ?

No cookie.
OK Now YOU find a match.
What PUG?? It is a Bulldog 44.
And note as far as I know Charter Arm's Revolvers are the only modern guns to use a TWO PART pistol frame.
By the way those are a MATCH.

I'll have to check after I get home from work (too many restrictions here), but I believe all of those different sub-models are products of the RESURRECTED company ("Charter2000" or something like that). IIRC, the original 'Charter Arms' company tanked in the late '90s. So you'd want to find a picture of a specimen from that time period, in order to make accurate comparisons... |

YES I have.
And THAT is a old Bulldog of the right type.
And the new ones are perfict copies: IE they used the same tooling and the parts are innerchangeable with the old guns.

Back to the topic... do we have any other gun experts to look into this? It is a fair enough question.

Like Phil, Craig, and many others on the RPF and other web sites and I did NOT look deep into it??
There is ONLY ONE gun made that matches these shapes and has a removeable trigger guard and handle.
Charter Arms guns.

Calm down folks... I wasn't suggesting that it "can't be a Bulldog" .. just wondering how it was that we think we know that it is a Bulldog.
If the CA is the only gun with these features that match up... well that would mean it has to be a Bulldog, right?

That was my point.
I was just helping.
I figured if I ask everone to compair they would work it out as we had.
There is no other revolver that has all these features.
They kept wanting to kill the messenger....

The swingarm is also identical to the Charter Arms Bulldog.
It's definitely not a S&W or a colt revolver.
The only thing it could possibly be is a clone of a CA but I never heard of anyone making one of those as the CA is so cheap to begin with. |

I honestly have to say, great stuff here! I do not have time presently to get into helping research this, but come Monday, I will be all over it.
Otherwise, I moved some of the wondering posts into the Pit where the off-topic discussion can continue without sidetracking this topic.

Should we just rename this the "Rich Baiting Thread"???
Back on topic...
The series of charter arms guns seemed to have some small changes over time, mostly internal as in different springs used in the triggers and in the cylinder release. Most of those changes seemed to not keep the parts interchangable and be more a result of 'minor improvements' made over time rather than as a result of model.
What we do know for sure is that it is a Charter Arms 44 frame. Rich is right that the pug and bull dog frames would have been identical from the same time period. The new ones too are almost identical as well. Since they was the only parts used, arguing semantics is silly, even if understandable.
All of the differences pointed out by OB are actually just removed pieces (as in the half moon screw above the triggers), or just position of the part in question (as in the trigger). I think the trigger release may have been modified slighlty to keep the cylinder inside with a cut down washer in place of the rubber washer, because it matches every other one I have seen so far in every other aspect.
