Here you go!

Please note I haven't plucked up enough courage to put the ribbon and the seal on my bottle yet...

AWESOME! Great pic...I have every confidence that you can place that ribbon and seal.
Now to the label in question...any thoughts?

OK...I was able to clean it up a bit more.
Lightened the edge color from black, took out all the blockyness around
the medallion and increaed the size of the yellow around it. I also added
the bit of red ribbon though I see now it could be a touch longer...
what do you think?

OK...last one for the day.
I like this one the best so far though I'd like to see the white characters at the top streched just a bit taller...

I am not seeing the wrap around label in this picture, but instead a ovoid(badge shaped?) label that is somewhat similar to the Tsing Tao beer label. That center circle area does look spot on though (from the Tom Southwell section on the DVD set IIRC?).

Tsing Tao beer labels for comparison...

Not really all that close, but it could have been inspiration for a label as well as a name. Since the bottle might not have looked all that great in close up, it would have needed a replacement for the close ups. Of course that is all just speculation, and probably not worth much more than a misdirection.

I do wonder if maybe somebody might have some production still that might show that bottle better since it is seen throughout his apartment.

I seriously want a label to my bottle too, and am holding onto some hope that the labels were taken off of another bottle as the Johnnie Walker labels very likely were. Good new project none the less.

I like this one if for nothing other than the variant gold top.

I think you are right...about the best we can do is match-up shapes and colors. I don't think mine is far off that being the case.

In the other pic there also seems to be a neck label.

This bottle may be the low budget BR fan bottle. Wink

I agree... Here is a close-up taken from a deleted ESPER scene. I've reworked the image several times on Photoshop in order to reveal more accurately shapes and colours...

Hope it'll help !

That's a real tantalizing look at the label on the neck of the bottle. Might give a clue about the main label.....maybe.

Guys,

The "Spanish" bottle looks like something that I have seen at a Dollar Tree store, or a Hobby Lobby store. Both of those stores carry all sorts of cheap glass.

Yes...this bottle was found for a very long time at arts and crafts stores as a fun project for ladies who wanted
to line their window sills with various bottles filled with oils and herbs. There was a whole slew of different bottle designs
available that I believe were all supposed to look "European".

I do also want to say that I get a little tired of the old comparison of Tsing-Tao BEER to anything Blade-Runner related.
I still find it interesting that the subtitles on Blade-Runner indicate that Deckard actually asked for "Tsin-Tao" NOT Tsing-Tao
as everybody likes to think. I think this also answers the question as to why they would name a fantasy HARD alcohol after a well known BEER.
Nobody really thinks that Deckard is doing shots of BEER, do they? Or that the hard alchohol he's drinking just happens to have the same name as a beer?

Great pictures above by the way...that is the kind of new out-look that is needed here rather than the same rehashing of old information.

Smirnoff makes Vodka and Beer-like beverages. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

Long time no post NIck!
What is not out of the realm of possibility?
That perhaps everybody has alway's thought that Deckard asked for Tsing-Tao and so that has become the accepted norm?

Yeah, been swamped with work. No time for fun prop pursuits lately. I'm hoping to get over the hump soon and get back to building stuff though.

Lots of good posts lately.

being Russian, i often wondered if the Tsing Tao label had any correlation to the Stolichnaya moniker. seeing as how both labels were born under communist regimes, i would like to know specifically what Tsing Tao means?

i always laugh when a friend offers me "Stoli" in a sincere attempt to impress a Russian. i usually just do the shot out of courtesy, but if its a close-friend i always lift the veil. Stolichnaya was a clever attempt by the Soviets to wax artistic on government issue (see 1984) generic brand ... whatever/insert your product here. its crap in Russia and they will almost always drink a foreign vodka as a status symbol. Stolichnaya by the way means quite simply "Cosmopolitan" - that is to say, we could call it State Liquor, but lets give our generic brand a sexy name instead. funny thing is folks dont know that Stolichnaya was used with impunity - you not only have Stoli vodka, but also Stolichnaya sugar, oats, coffee, cigarettes (if you dont believe me i still have the carton i brought back from when i lived there - i'll scan a pack of the ciggees) - see the 1984 corollary?

anyway, since the two regimes are similar, i wonder if the Tsing Tao moniker might not be so important as to whether or not its beer or booze - its just the generic brand that makes either. sorry for the rant but i thought it might shed some light light on the beer vs. booze confusion.

Tsing Tao is a region in China, and itself has a lot of stuff using the name in China. I believe it is pronounced 'Tsin Dow'. As Deckard pronounces it in the movie. The screen caps were likely changed for legal reasons with licensing and therefore more phonetic. Also Screen caps can get almost everything wrong all the time, so what it says may just be a mistake, especially since there were so many variations upon the script and transcripts over time.

I do see your point though Paul, because if we stay locked into this idea, it could prevent us from seeing some new perspectives. Going down the same path that has been there for decades is unlikely to help us discover new information.

Time to think outside the box(or bottle), because it is very likely that the labels on this bottle may have also been found items as they were on the JW bottle.
