|
|
So, I'm still dealing with the constant agony of sciatica, and I probably shouldn't be doing things like bending over a workbench for 4 hours, but I say: Screw it. They gave me oxycodone for a reason.
Tonight, I decided to complete my latest snubby build, using the first set of wood grips I completed for the steampunk gun, then rejected as too light for the steampunk gun.
HERE SHE IS!
A few detail shots:
And a few more wides:
The finish was done using Krylon UltraFlat Black. It has a blemish where I got the smallest dab of JB on my finger and caused a few crappy spots, then rubbed them out.
I need to mask off parts of the gun, and repaint over the blemishes. Not a big deal.
tried to wire the LED's in, used BLUE, and I must have burnt through the wires, because again, they just don't work. I ended up pulling the switch and visible wires out of the build. It looks kind of cool as the small LED bulbs are clear, and reflective. So I can live with it.
I'm a HUGE fan of the Krylon Ultra Flat black.
I'm going to do a fullsize version of this blaster using one of my broken Coyle blasters I've been meaning to refurbish.
I've already started shaping those grips, and they look pretty good so far!!
Hope you guys dig it.
Thanks for looking!

OH, almost forgot. Here she is next to my other Ross blasters. Bear in mind the black and silver full size blaster was a recast I purchased many years ago and fixed up.
This was a fun build. I just love doing these variant style blasters. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

That came out great--the Ultra Flat does look good, especially with the light colored grips.
Are those metal barrel inserts I see on a couple of those? Nice added detail! _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

Noeland, that is awesome! I love simplistic design, plus I am a sucker for flat black finishes on guns. _________________ www.propsummit.com

Thanks guys! It was, as usual for me, just a lot of fun to create yet another look for a variant style blaster. I get a kick out of it.

Me too. One of the first guns I ever fired as a kid leanring how to shoot was a "parkerized" high standard military issue 22. My oldest brother brought it home from vietnam.
Later I fired a parkerized 1911 45acp and I was pretty much bought and paid for after that. Flat black was my finish of choice if I had a choice.
One of the reasons I love using the Krylon Ultra Flat black so much is because it's reminds me that old parkerized look.

Yep. I really like the way it looks on Rick's guns to have a bright sanded insert in them. It disappears in the silver blaster, but I think it looks pretty cool on the black guns.
I bought a length of aluminum tubing in 2 sizes from Home Depot years ago and those have been my barrels/inserts for many blaster builds.
Including one of my entries into the BBC blaster contest this year.
