Thought I would start a new thread with a proper title so we could find it easier later when referencing back.

We all know now about the Contempra phone being used as the base, or at least the handset, but what about the keypad?

I have had little luck obtaining this and am debating when I will give the full ID, because I won't be able to work on the phone for a while anyway. It is a Casio, and it seems to be pretty rare.

Is that wee monitor the same one used on the Cambodian lady's electron microscope?

If you are talking about the JVC Monitor? it is almost 9" wide (4.25" wide screen) The screen on the Vid Phon is 2" wide (the width of the calculator and the same area of the Contempra phone). I am pretty sure it is a slide viewer. Probably a Panavue 2 (a Panavue 1 can be seen on Holden's interview Table), but there are some inconsistencies. I am still also not positive that both of the Vid Phons are made from the same parts. Not all the reference pics I have match up with eachother.

I've been working on a phone prop as well recently. Nice job spotting the Casio.
I purchased a couple of slide viewers as well.
They seem pretty close to what's on screen.

I'll post pictures when I'm close to done.

Very cool info!
Apparently, Casio has some big ties to sci-fi. The keypad and circuit board of the MQ-1 calculator are both used on different parts of Boba Fett's costume. Smile

The Casio MQ-1 calculator (like the TI Exactra 19 & 20 calculators) has been hunted almost to extinction by SW fans for years, so if there's any to be had, it'd most probably come from a SW collector...

Finally got around to converting the "Canadian" phone and am pleased with the result, if anybody has a better pic of the original, it would be appreciated.

Contempra...according to a client of mine (worked with Bell Canada for 35 years) the phone was full of technical problems: static, key pad problems and the likes. He recalled throwing hundreds of them when Bell switched to a completely new design.
Lots of colour were produced: red, green, light green, black, dark brown, beige/off-white. The black is the rare one!
He gave me a dark brown which I will use soon.

On the Wall shot I can pretty much ID the Slide Viewer in there. We need some more high res pics of that angle. the wall version seems to have a lot more added to it, but some of the table tops seem more complex too. As far as I can tell there is at least one Black one, and one Gray one.

Looks great so far, Keep it up Very Happy

Offworld66, you have assembled you vid phone with the base the wrong way round....

The handset should sit in the cut out on the short part on the phone, not on the long part, then the calculator can sit nicely by the side of it on the flat serface.

Thanks for pointing that out JR but take into account the wall phon has many additions to it, also there is a gap on the top and bottom
of the calculator. The calculator is wafer thin remember
so it would sit flush on the reciever side. If you are right JR
its not hard to change the phon, just a little sanding and a touch up.
Andy has done a mountain of work on this, so i will wait for him to have another look before i make a final call on it.
