You're right. That definately looks like a Thinking Cap. I totally forgot about the blue braid on the base. I now even remember the scrambled eggs having a little extra glue showing. The patch does however look like a different color scheme.

Found this one, sold by PROP MASTERS. They say it's a vintage THINKING CAP CO cap but the patch doesn't look genuine either, although different (and more movie accurate) than Phil Rae's...

Outland is still a good movie imho, one of the best sci-fi film of the 80's, a good storyline and great actors !

Sorry Phil but it's just an adaptation of HIGH NOON (LE TRAIN SIFFLERA 3 FOIS in french) in space, nothing more (and nothing less) !

Yeah !...I knew that Fred, and that's exactly why i think the movie is good, simple and effective ... and Connery was the best Cooper's heir

OK then, mon pote...
(but I'm definitely more a Sergio Leone / Clint Eastwood fan, old westerns like HIGH NOON just can't compare to THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY !)

I think this is going to need a little more clarifacation, I dont remember any white stitching on my "Thinking cap" and although the patch on the Prop Masters hat is of the correct vintage with the correct yellow border and uppercase O, I was under the assumption that they didnt come with the officers patch. Could there have been different versions of the "Thinking Cap"? .Im so confused............This cap from the Starlog article is totally different to the Prop Master cap.

I must admit I feel the same now................. Will someone show us a real, genuine, 100% authentic, unaltered NOSTROMO CAP from the Thinking cap co ???

Alright guys, my favorite western is , Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
Not because Harry Deans in it but because of the outstanding story and the gritty feel through the whole thing. Peckinpahs direction was at its peak and his stable of legend actors give it real life.
The final scene of a little boy throwing stones at the once proud gunslinger,James Coburn, slumping out of town, is true cinema Very Happy
Phil, i think the cap has a very strong chance of leading me to the jacket,
two mysteries now need to be solved

I am thinking about splitting this thread up, or retitling it "Alien Flight Jacket, Thinking Caps and Westerns"

The intergalctic toy company is selling these on ebay, not worth noting except the hat is the same as the unconfirmed Thinking Cap hat. I say unconfirmed, but as in were there different versions of the original hat............

Hum, I've acted like Joan would have... BOUGHT IT !
(thanks Tim for posting this !)

I've also bought these, it's the first time I see Dallas' gold wings, Brett's grey wings and the small green wings !!! (only the ragular crew blue and small black were available until now)

I'll add a gold pin on my gold wings to make it screen accurate. (same thing twith the grey one)

Since the topic is Nostromo jackets...

Here's a research thread at RPF, including a lot of my screencaps and analysis. Each jacket seems to be unique.

http://therpf.com/showthread.php?t=34755&

Here's a closeup of a supposedly production-used patch... it seems to match publicity photos of Sigourney Weaver.

Thinking Cap Company also produced a portfoio of patches and pins from Alien. They are all nice but don't seem to match the screenused items.

Interstingly enough, for the big screen-filling closeup the patch gets when the Alien's "tongue" punches into Brett's skull... doesn't show the patch at all, but rather a pre-scored photograph of it!
