It was made using a high pressure helmet (for the 2 visors) and a Cooper SKB 100 skateboard helmet (for the rest of the helmet, of course), just like TRON's helmets...

Here are a few pics of the one that was auctioned by the propstore of London...

Here it is, in all its glory...

Cool

BTW, Weylan Yutani wings are missing on this one... IIRC they should be on at least on side of the helmet... (same decal as the one seen on the large scale Nostromo nose, just aside the left window)

How weird! The only other pic I had seen before of this helmet is the small one first posted.
It sure is a strange looking helmet! Thanks for posting all the other pics.

You're welcome Eric !

BTW, did you know the nostromo crew members were supposed to wear those helmets, at least if we refer to Ridley Scott's storyboards ?
The actual props look very close to the way they were designed in this image, don't you think ?

Fred

Great find Fred.
I love these helmets and the scene at the start with the computer reflected into these, one of my favourite scenes.

Neil,

Here is a storyboard / Ridleygram of the sequence you're talking about...

The funny thing here is how Sir Ridley refers to both computers !

I imagine probably by rules of flight they were supposed to wear the helmets on critical maneuvers or landings, and that discipline was so relaxed on the Nostromo that nobody actually went by the book... Im kinda surprised Ripley was not wearing hers with a copy of the decontamination rules... which in this case might have been a good idea.

Dallas looked like a really relaxed captain... and the film was shooted in the late 70s, I think it's pretty important to underscore this here.

I should add that the elmets look terrific when dispayed on the cockpit but i'm not sure they would have once worn by the actors (look at the propstore pics at the top of this page, not really convincing IMHO).

Fred,

Is this the helmet??? from what I can tell they still make these helmets, called a "Hurling helmet" based on the sk100, same design. I havent had to hurl in years, but by gosh wearing a helmet might be a good Idea Smile Smile Smile

This is an old sk100 helmet, 29 dollars, I can give you the link to it if you want

The yellow one is 24 dollars.
