I was prompted to this forum by Fred B. aka skin job 66 to show some pics of a model I built a couple of years ago. This one was actually my second. Took me about 6 months to scratch. Here is a link to my photobucket. Glad to be a part of this forum.

Wow.. I Love it!! Thank you for posting the link... really great work! Looks like you did your homework on this one. One thing that has not been discussed here yet is about the refinery. Would there have been any possible habitable facilities on that vehicle that crew-members might have escaped to? I guess it really doesnt matter, But its always intrigued me.. there must have been some pressurized stations somewhere on it for maintenance,

There probably was, the trick would be getting to it.

Thats what I was thinking... I doubt it was accessible through the docking module of the nostromo, and probably off limits to the crew towing it... It is an interesting supposition thought. I love how you have the channel through the center and the exhaust outlets in the rear. There is only a brief hint of this in the movie, and many people are confused about the nostromos function, i.e. basically a forward mounted overpowered little engine for towing these monsters through space... the thrust actually comes out the back of the refinery. A great piece of art you did here!

Yeah, I didn't know that module existed until Martin Bower told me.

I think we can all agree without a doubt that this is the definitive refinery model/prop.....

I always got the feeling that the refinery was never intended to be in any kind of atmosphere, and that while there might have been a few areas that could be pressurized with breathable air, it comes down to they didn't have enough air for a 10 month haul. Doesn't ash say in one of the deleted scenes that they have something like a week's worth of air?

As for getting to it, that would be fairly simple really. Exit the airlock, cross the hull to the docking grapple and from there just walk across to the refinery.

Oh and BTW... Frakking awesome model!

It might be until I start the next one. I just got more reference photos. Oh, and by the way in case I forgot to mention, the next one will be made into a kit.

I noticed the small gantries going across the bottom, they look like cell phone towers going horizontally across the bottom... If you kit this, I would love to have one...

Welcome aboard, John !

A question regarding the Nostromo included in your refinery model : Is it a Konami capsule toy ship or did you make it from scratch like the refinery ?

I ask you this because I was in touch with Martin Bower last year and almost commissioned a refinery model from him... but he told me he would use a Konami toy since he couldn't replicate an accurate Nostromo at this scale...

Fred

PS : Really interested in your refinery model kit when it'll be available !

Phenomenal piece of work!

I'd considered making a docking arm display for my Halcyon Nostromo, but this is really something else!

Hi Fred, it is the Konami Nostromo. In fact when I was emailing back and forth with Martin I told him I was going to use the Konami Nostromo and he gave me some measurements for the platform. Problem is, the platform and towers are actually out of scale for thew Konami Nostromo. This platform is close to 2 feet long and for The Nostromo used it should be closer to 16 or 17 inches.
The original platform was 8' 7" long and 7' wide. The original Nostromo was 18" to 20" in length. Minus the probes.

PS : Really interested in your refinery model kit when it'll be available !

Wow! What an amazing model. Shocked
I've delved into scratchbuilding and it's a great feeling to sit back once a project is complete and see the final model.
Can't imagine how complex it would be to kit something like this, though!
Thanks for sharing the pics.

The size of your refinery related to the Konami Nostromo looks spot on compared to Martin Bower's refinery model (he already made 2 of those I think), mainly because on Bower's recently made model it's too small compared to the tug (he sent me some photos of the first one he had completed last year but I really don't know if I can post those pics here, guess I would have to ask permission first)

Again, I'm so amazed each time I look at your refinery model !!! Great work (again, again & again) !

Fred
