I love the landing gear, just not sure how the front foot is supposed to come out there.

Tell me about it.
It still looks cool though, even if it can't be explained, lol. |

I don't really like the landing gear on that Narcissus model, looks weird (and please don't ask me why, it's just my opinion here !)
OK, here are some pics of the screen-used Narcissus model, sent by Phil Rae last year...
Enjoy !

Thanks Neil !
IIRC, the nose art pin-up came from a WW2 airplane model... a B17 (or B52 ?) named "Miss Peggy"... The transition to "Miss Piggy" (the nickname of the Narcissus) was quite easy to imagine !

I thought they mey have been decals from a kit.
In the third picture you posted you can see a couple of decals still on their paper (I think they are anyway)
Here's some of the kits used...
Again, from Marin Bowers site. |

So is that supposed to be the restored original miniature? Or a duplicate that Bower built later (as he so often does with Eagles from Space 1999)?
What I like most about those landing gear, is that you can take them off. |

Full Size Dead Kaneā¢ is the perfect companion for your Richies Armor ALIEN Environmental Suit.
Actually an update on the Narcissus, it looks like Bower re-created it from scratch, based on photos of the original miniature.
Which explains a lot, including why the "EI" logo he came up with, is different.

Karl,
those are shots of a Narcissus model Martin Bower re-created for himself a couple of years ago (no landing gears on the screen-used model). There's a devoted section to the making of this studio scale model on his site.

Thanks Fred, I see that page now!
Bower's site IDs the decal as
"Joltin' Jossie" transfer from the Airfix "Superfortress "
..changed to say "Miss Piggy".

Don't be sad!
Actually what's just not working for me, is the landing gear CLAW... it's just too "cute" that they look like the Nostromo gear. And held out on those spindly leg frameworks, they look a bit strange.
(to get them opened there would have to be a whole lot of origami-like unfolding I should think... strangely complicated for a rescue craft).
Possibly the model would be improved by replacing the claw feet with a simple landing pad or foot, like a Space 1999 Eagle or Apollo Lunar Module.
Frankly I always thought the Narcissus would have NO gear at all, and it would just belly-flop to a splashdown or something.
I could also visualize just a couple panels opening up on the bottom, skids possibly, to ease the touch down on land. |

I like the sound of that though
I think it'd look pretty cool with a normal landing gear aswell, i know there aren't wheels in sci-fi though |

The Action Fleet toy just has little landing skids that fold out from the bottom.
I think these look OK except I would shorten the front gear and angle it out a little more. The Narc can land nose-down a little I think, does not need to be perfectly level.

Possibly the gear could fold out from the sides... there's something compelling about those long panels at around amidships there...

I'm with Fred, I don't like the landing gear either. For some reason it just doesn't seem to work for me. |

I like the landing gear, I think it looks pretty cool.
Probably would have different methods for touching down on a planet surface though, such as a parachute deploying, or some kind of inflatable 'cushions' like they used on the Mars Rover vehicle. But not a woopey cushion though, that would be bad. |

Yeah it was all part of that late 70s trend for making the bottom two engines just "dummies" for storing the landing gear.
