Thanks a lot for your appreciation, Neil !

Yes, this is one of the 2 genuine MK3 jackets I was able to find on eBay (the sizes were pretty small, I'm rather Large / X Large) (I'm talking about shoulders size here, not belly... You won't be able to wear a Nostromo jacket if you're - even a little - overweighted !!!)

If I ever do another NOSTROMO jacket in the future, it would be Parker's... It's a leather jacket with patches and a yellow tag on the back... Pretty easy to do compared to Kane's & Dallas'... and very cool WW2 look !!!

Fred

That wouldn't be too hard to do really. You just have to dig up an old A2 flight jacket and apply the patches. The one obstacle there aside from the potential high price for a vintage A2, is finding one with a one piece back.

That's very true, but a new repro wont have that really broken in look to it, which is very much a part of what makes Parker's jacket so cool.

I do know from my own forays into collecting vintage and repro leather jackets that a one piece back usually ups the price a bit and is typically harder to find than a two or three piece back on an A2 jacket.

Going off the photos of Parker's jacket, I'd say its either goatskin or lambskin. I've got a Wested that's been knocking around for close to 15 years now and it has a lot of similar break in and distressing as Parker's jacket.

Neil,
I think this creamy coloured jacket was a mock up and never intended to be used as apposed to a prototype. Tiny Nichols would have used it to assembly the lacings and patches and see how they looked.

Thanks for the info Jeff.
Even though this jacket wasn't in the movie, i still really like it.
I'd love to recreate it. Maybe one day, lol.

Saw one of those white MK3 jackets the other day on eBay UK... Didn't know it was issued with this colour, always thought this prototype jacket was a green one that had been deeply soaked...

Hi first time post from a life long Alien fan, this is one incredible site, so much to take in so little time.......Anyway just thought you would like to know that the Dallas prototype jacket from the Propstore is a M-1941 GI jacket as worn by American infantry units in WW2, as seen in saving private Ryan, also designated M-41 or a Parsons jacket. These can be purchased from numerous WW2 military reproduction sites from about £40.00.
Originally thought that these were the jackets used by Kane & Dallas as they do bear a striking similar design to the RAF mark 3.....Hope this is useful?

Welcome aboard kane2122.
I'm not sure it is an M-41 tbh.
I've been looking at the M1941 jacket for a while now (SPR fan aswell) and there are a few things that don't match.

Here's a picture of ATF's M1941...

Welcome aboard Kane, as you can see (thanks Gaff for the pics) that M1941 doesn't match the Dallas prototype...best of luck next time Wink

The Dallas prototype jacket had me intrigued! I on first viewing thought M-41, like many others, I contacted Stephen Lane at the Propstore to see if they could shed any light on this unusual item, but unfortunately the jacket had been sold on so no luck there!
But after a exhaustive trawl through many dead end sites I finally found a match to the type of jacket used in Tiny Nicholls prototype! The jacket is in fact an old style Beaufort MK3-A fire fighting jacket used extensively by RAF fire fighting crews. Manufactured by one of three companies who make the MK3 cold weather aircrew flying jackets.
These jackets have been in use by RAF fire crews back to the early sixties, they were manufactured in numerous colour and material variations, dark green, grey, dark blue and a light green, (treated wool, aramid, nomex materials).
The jackets were reversable with a light tan interior for use at night or low visibility situations, they sported the same button arrangement as the MK3's, with a short body design and with a shorter collar, velcro and zipper cuff versions, (depending on supplier) there was no pen holder on the left sleeve and optional epalettes for rank identification on the tan side.
These jackets and matching trousers have been replaced these days by modern lightweight tan nomex- kevlar two piece suits worn by most fire crews around the world, but the odd MK3A does appear occasionally on ebay now and again.

The Shepperton film studios would have been surrounded by RAF bases at that time, these jackets and other military equipment would have been plentiful and easy to come by being ex mod stock, including the Pre Nato MK3'S used for Dallas and Kanes jackets!
It would have made sense to tinker with one of these similar MK3A jackets to refine the finished the design of Dallas's jacket than using an expensive and hard to come by WW2 M-41 or the screen used "taupe" Pre Nato MK3's!

It is interesting to note that the lacing on the sleeve is constructed from two short pieces (probably the back sections from the G4-B) stitched together into one long piece.

This seems to fit the philosophy on Alien of cheap easy to come by items heavily modified to turn them into unusual one of a kind items, e.g military surplus, decorators overalls and work shirts, cheap basketball boots ( actually widely available shop bought chunky soled UK basketball boots, no particular brand name. My cousin had the same boot in red canvas with a all white chunky hiking boot sole with a red strip around the top, as used in the movie, available in yellow and blue to, simply sprayed white and retrofitted with d-rings.
"Oh for a time machine"!
