There is a case where a screen used one may cost as much as a regular one. There is a good article about it at bladezone, but it is down at the moment. I have always loved Charles Rennie Mackintosh and he influenced Frank Lloyd Wright and the whole arts and crafts movement in the states. He also influenced art deco and art nouveau. His hill house chair is a masterpiece of design that he made during the Art Nouveau period...

here is a website that sells the Argyle and his other furniture...

I have chatted with the owner of a unfinished furniture store. he brings in quality unfinished furniture. Many copies made overseas of leading designs in wood. I have shown him the Argyle and he is checking with siome of his foreign manufacturers to see about costs of replication.

It might cost less to find a local distributor...depending on markup. I have never even looked on ebay before might be worth checking especially with all the copy cats. On an interesting note in the BR theme when looking at chairs I noticed this variation on the Argyle...

It makes me realize that the argyle does to some extent also mimic the "eye" theme in BR..

I never noticed the chairs to be honest with you, but the one from the movie is awesome!! If I had the room, I would love to have that sitting in a corner somewhere....

What are they going for?

between $500 and $1000. Not bad considering what you get, but most of them are sold in Europe so any shipping would make it cost prohibitive here in the states to buy. Good for our European members though.

Basically they were designed to be a dining room chair.

I always thought they were a valet type chair until nick daring (I think) ID'd them.

Never seen one on ebay and have searched for furniture replicators in US. So far no luck.

A pair of rather tatty Argyle Chairs slipped through my fingers on Ebay in 2000. I remember sketching the chair from a crappy vhs copy of the film and spending hours in the local library until I identified it. Strange, back then, nobody on the WWW was talking about this stuff!

I didn't ID them. The first I saw of it was an old article on Bladezone.

I'd love to have one though. I recently saw one at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan (aka the MOMA) in the design section. That entire building is filled with cool looking stuff!

I recognized the chair when I was taking a furniture design class in college back in 1987. I kept seeing it in other movies as well. I somehow thought it was common knowlage. Probably nobody thought to point it out. The chairs are pretty famous.

I wanted an argyle chair for my dining room until I saw how much they cost, and then to ship one to me. Laughing They are very attractive though.

A cool 4.5" tall dollhouse version sold on eBay recently but I forgot to bid on it - although the winner appears to be a Blade Runner fan judging from his win history - is he one of us? Smile

Here's the one from the auction:

Here's the source:

Shipping to the US is $10. Couldn't resist and ordered one! Smile

For all means pals! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

You know me well, isn't? Very Happy Very Happy

Not only this mini-chair was at ebay, also a brooch is available. Too expensive for me (I think is not worth the value):

http://cgi.ebay.es/CHARLES-RENNIE-MACKINTOSH-ARGYLE-CHAIR-Brooch_W0QQitemZ370212245290QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item56325e8f2a&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

I'd made an offer, but seller is reluctant. Well, is Ok, no matter.

Back to the mini Argyle. I was looking for one of this more than a year... Is the beginning (?) of a full Deckard's apartment replica at this scale... HAHAHA! (just kidding)

The "real" one is available in Europe, but shipping costs is high anyway. And the Willow Mackintosh chair... wow, too expensive as well....

Oh. Just for your records, I bought also the Argyle chair postcard...

http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=270408940922

All for the book project...
Rolling Eyes

AHHH, That will solve the space situation Joan

Ive thought about modifying an existing elcheapo chair with a similar base as possible to the Argyle. All the work would be in the back frame
and should only require basic expertise and equipment to achieve the look i want. If some peices need specialised shaping or lathing it wouldnt be expensive to "outscource" that.
I have seen a couple of originals down here and they are far too expensive to even consider, would rather put that kind of money into
one of the screen used props that come up from time to time.
If you cant buy it, trade it, find or steal it........ make it.

You are right Tim, but not everyone is able to do such a work.

Well... The Argyle chairs are expensive, but, a nice piece to start a serious expo or museum at home, with all honours!
