I have the opportunity to have a badge made and I am looking for input on what it should say. Blade Runner, LAPD on it sure, anything else stand out as a must? Appreciate it all.

What kind of badge? the LAPD style shield?

If its that type, I'd suggest Blade Runner Unit, Detective, and 26354. I think those shield designs feature three ribbons that can carry text. I was looking into getting one made myself, however it gets very touchy from a legal standpoint in CA having a badge printed with LAPD and not being a cop.

It's a little ambiguous, since in the soundtrack Deckard says "two-sixty-three-fifty-four". which could be 26354, or 260354 (or even 2603504) according to your preference.

Most replicas seem to use 26354.

No LAPD police badge was seen in the film, but this replica from Dr Strangelove on the RPF is a nice "fantasy" version

The use of "Blade Runner" kind of feels wrong (it's like when they put "Star Trek" on the side of a phaser toy), but the term is used in the film I guess. I thought it felt more like a slang term or nickname though. "Rep-Detect" is also used (in deleted voiceover lines) and that might be a more plausible term to use.

Nice picture Phase, still not quite sure on it but I was originally thinking of what is pictured there. Or LA could be replaced by "Detective" and the Los Angeles seal is still there to identify the city. Thanks guys

The police badges seen in the film do not look anything like LAPD badges

And in fact the city was NOT necessarily supposed to be Los Angeles (at various times during production the city was known as "New York" and also went unnamed, before "Los Angeles" was settled upon).

Whether or not Deckard's wallet contains a badge, is another huge mystery

Other places the movie could have been set based on the book and scripts. San Francisco, New York, San Angeles (a megalopolis combining San Francisco and Los Angeles) and Cleveland (according to Syd Mead who painted some of his paintings based on that city).

Well the open crawl does mention 'Blade Runner Units' as the name of the police squads that deal with replicant retirement. Though it might be best to go with Rep-Detect in the long term.

Here are some variations of the Deckard badge from my collection to give you some ideas.

http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=352&highlight=

Here's a pic of a wallet set I did. This was presented to actor Morgan Paull who portrayed Holden. I based the badge on the known uniform badge which was larger. I made it a "gold shield" (actually, brass) based on the traditional gold badges issued to detectives, etc. although this is not the case in LAPD.

Appreciate all the info everyone, I was thinking of using red lettering rather than the blue and I think Blade Runner Unit if it fits up top and LAPD and then the number at the bottom. The badge will be a real one due to a contact I have that is doing me a favor BUT due to legal issues it cannot be made with the building used on the real badge. The builing offered is pictured below, I of course would like the LAPD one but this should still be neat looking. Any opinions good or bad on the use of that building, in this case I don't have the choice of the real deal. And maybe even go the "San Angeles" route and have the whole thing be a little different. Thanks guys

Shouldn't you use the LAPD tower from the Movie?

That would be great but something customized in that way would be very expensive but that would be very nice.

Welp, its in the works now and I decided since it doesn't have the building from the LAPD we would change things up a touch and go with a little of everything. It will say as rank across the top Blade Runner, the LA city seal with be there and then in the bottom half, Replicant Detection Unit and the badge number 26354.

Should look pretty neat and a little different, I had to work within the pattern I was given so what the heck. Thanks for all the responses and info.

Here's what they look like as standard LAPD detective badges, but with Blade Runner numbers:

I transposed the numbers on one of them but kept it anyway. I replaced it later with the correct number.

There's been some debate on that, but I think the generally accepted number is 26354.
