Please excuse the big image but I wanted it to be as clear as possible. These are my 'rotated' versions of the original, angled, key photos, front and back.

At first it's a big mess, but you soon start to see things emerge. I've marked some of the more obvious(?) ones. (I also marked the screw holes because they could be mistaken for objects!)

At the bottom are the six main 'mystery' parts. Some of them are used once, some several times. So... any clues?

Is A the guts of a potentiometer? E looks like a brass strip, possibly a spring contact for something? B, I don't know but there's lots of them.

I forgot to mark at least two transistors (silver cans, far right).

The rest of it consists mostly of odd little metal strips and those pink plastic scraps. Confused

Okay people, let's go! Wink

Does anyone have any experience embedding things in plastic? I've never tried it but presumably this would have been done in several stages:
1) pour thin layer
2) position first components and pour another layer, let dry
3) position more components, pour layer, let dry
4) pour final layer

... or am I way off?

As far as I can make out, the objects are all on one layer. Just placed on top of each other.

Would the objects you labeled as diodes be resistors instead? They appear to have the fine color stripes like resistors have.

Yeah, I initially thought resistors too. But then I noticed the black stripe at one end; diodes have this to show which end is the cathode.

So I think instead of various stripes, it might be one stripe and some characters?

To be honest it could be either. Wink

Ah! Gotcha.
Could those 2 square objects which are sort of teal in the left pic and reddish/silver in the right pic be transistors?

Yes Mike, good work/research so far...layering is the way to go with the pieces; that's the only way to go as far as I know.

I just dug through my box of vintage electron parts and did not find a single match. I will keep looking though.

Great - can you be more specific about which parts might be GEC transistors and which heat sinks? Maybe referring to my diagram above?

Back at the box... I went out and found some self-tappers with the right sized head. I used a Dremel to cut the heads off since they don't have to be functional.

They just pop in the holes... but I'll probably superglue them in anyway.

I think technically these might be 'Posidrive' rather than 'Philips', but it's close enough for me! Wink

Still no idea what to use for those other, 'flat', fixings. Confused

How much is it going for? I mean I don't want to spend a fortune on this thing, but if it's only a few quid please send me the item number!

Thats the problem GEC was bought out by marconi, and then marconi in 2000 went out of business in consumer electronics. There should be tons of vintage 60's era televisions in the UK, just go find some old squat and see if there are some abandoned ones maybe?

http://www.transparentsound.com/transistors/vintage-transistors/mullard/mullard.htm

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1950s-TV-GEC_W0QQitemZ250484254167QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Collectables_RadioTelevision_Telephony_SM?hash=item3a520665d7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

This possibly would have most of what you need, including the round part. they actually should be paying you just to get this beast out of their house...

The GEC Tele by the way actually looks late 50's I tired to find the marconi 2 way transceiver but it must be gone..it was basically a marine radio, but this may have more junk you need

I see the copper metal parts labeled "e" look like the contact pulled out of a spring contact switch

Thanks! LOL, 99 pence for that television? Too bad I live nowhere near Abergavenny! Shocked

Meanwhile... I got these - there should be something in here that will open the door!

I also dug these out of my spares box. Two solenoids...

... one of which I should be able to adapt to retract the door lock (if and when I figure that out).

Finally, for the key I ordered some 'half-round' dowel. I needed two sizes. Here's what arrived:

Spot the problem? The left one is fine. The right one is... not what you would call 'half round'. Why the difference? Who knows. But I think it's a bit off. I contacted the company to ask for my money back! Which means I still need to find that second size. Still, the hunt goes on. Wink

It's only call half-round...but when you put 2 together it's not "round" anymore. It's only about esthetics. A real half one like the one on the right of your picture would protrude too much, let's say at the bottom of a plint, or to finish a baseboard, so that's why in the industry they decided to go with...well not a true half.
At the end of the day it's all about size; on a small scale: true half, on a bigger scale: false half

Dress it up all you like, it's still a lie! Razz

They should call it 'part round', or 'round segment'... Wink
