Hello all,
Just wanted to share some pics of a work in progress. I've had this jacket from The Gap for years now. It's a fatigue jacket kind of design with lots of pockets and I've wanted to do something sci-fi to it for a long time. I think the pseudo-military style combined with all those utilitarian pockets looks like something that would fit in with the other costumes from the film.
With the new patches from Montana, and the Nostromo lettering under way, I decided to give it an Alien look.
The jacket started out a pale gray-green color. It's 100% cotton, so I got some RIT dye and went to town! After experimenting with a few bottles of their liquid dye, I found a combo that I believe gives a good representation of the strange "purple taupe" shade of the original RAF Mk. III jackets used in the film. I used 2 full bottles of dark brown, and 1 full bottle of purple to get this shade.
Here's an overall shot.

It's a nice, rich brown which has a purplish cast under the right light. These pics were taken on my back patio under overcast skies.

I got a set of Montana's patches a little while back, and they're just amazing looking! I had a local alterations shop sew them on for me, as first of all, I have no sewing machine, and second, I have no sewing skills!

I think the patches fit nicely with the style of the jacket. As you can see, I went with the silver "exec" wings.

The patches really look awesome! I had to take a closer shot, too. Razz

Whenever the Nostromo lettering is available, it's going right smack dab in the middle of the back!
I also want to add a couple more patches to the jacket. I've ordered 2 of the tricentennial patches from ebay.uk and I'll be putting the US version on the larger pocket on the upper right chest, opposite the wings. I'd also like to put a W-Y logo somewhere, too. Not sure which version I'll go for yet.

Good stuff! The gap made also, a few years ago, ''pilot pants'' with loads of zippers and pockets...I'll post a picture soon.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know if I'm brave enough to add pink piping around the collar or not! Maybe another color?
I think I may go for one of the rectangular W-Y logo patches and put it on the flap of the pocket on the right sleeve. Or maybe it will be too close under the Nostromo patch on the shoulder. . . *shrug*

Actually it looks like you already have the logo on the jacket above the right front pocket. I would not add another one personally

Those would make good pants for a cool costume, where did you find those?

Joburg, those pants are pretty cool. They sort of look like the bottom half of a flight suit.

Got my tricentennial patch sewn on.

Once the Nostromo lettering is made available, it will be complete!

OK guys, here's my jacket all done.
Thanks to the members here who took the time to do a lot of research into the film costumes and were able to produce some killer replicas!

I took these pics while wearing the jacket to give a better idea how it hangs. My wife told me today it really looks like some kind of obscure military jacket. . . which I suppose is the idea.

A couple of front angles.

With my new t-shirt, too.

Here's the amazing lettering!

It was very easy to work with, although I did have to press it for quite a bit longer than stated on the directions. Perhaps my iron just doesn't get hot enough. *Shrug* Oh well, it came out great!

Now to see how many strange looks I get when I wear it around town.
