In answer to the previous question yes it's a replica of the A3 WY Corporate Commando pulse rifles. It was black and had no counter.
Iconic though it may be I have always disliked glowing red counters on pulse rifles.
There are any one of a number of ways and means a counter can be put on a battle rifle... a glowing red LED on the right hand side of your weapon is probably the worst.

I'd be hearing about someone shooting an enemy because the other guy's watch was reflecting, or something of that sort. Now, add to that mix some 22nd century optics on one side and an LED readout on the other and see how that pans out!
