|
|
Hello
I am new to this website and fell over it while looking for information on the Blade Runner gun. A friend of mine took some photos of the gun in LA a couple of months ago with his cell phone and I thought you all might like to see them. Sorry if you have seen it all before. It is now in a fabulous games room and my friend was at a party there. He ended up playing pool with Roger Daltry no less! The owner is a very wealthy film producer I think. He told my friend he had some rust removed from it but has not done anything else to it. He has never tried to fire it either! Sorry it took me a while to join your website and then work out how to load the pictures!

I'm no expert but I'm fairly certain that's a replica.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in soon. |

Hmmmmm. It doesn't have the Weaver scope knob on the side that the Hero did at WorldCon or in the PIH auction pics (that doesn't mean it couldn't be replaced). It's definitely cleaned up even more than it was at auction if it is the original.

The Weaver knob is why I first thought it's a replica.
I've also noticed some other bolts either missing or added, but I'm not sure on their names.
I hope they didn't clean off the rust, if it is the original, it added so much to the look and history.
EDIT
The more I look, the more I'm convinced it's a replica.
I'm not familiar with gun part names but I think the "binding post"(?) is painted different aswell.
Too many things different. |

The binding post was another thing I kind of have a problem with. It's hard to tell but it looks like it's missing the cut/damage just behind the knurling on the side. But again that could be something that was repaired or rotated over to the other side during "restoration".
I guess we all have a different idea of what constitutes "a little work". There has been much more that just removing a little rust if this is the real thing. It's been polished and re-blued as well and having parts repaired or replaced. Probably not as bad as refinishing and re-upholstering a Chippendale chair but it's been seriously and sadly messed with.
I'd love to be able to get a nice clear shot of the serial number, the bottom of the butt plate, the damage to the left side of the grip and few other "tells". The slider switch on the side looks really nice though the switch seems in better shape than it should be. |

Wow! Very intriguing. I can't tell from the Picture exactly what it is, partially because of the quality of the pics. I can say for sure it is NOT a Sidkit, and unlikely a Coyle. It is also not the same gun that Karl took pictures of at worldcon, and went up for sale last year. It does look like it is made from a real Steyr though. Possibly other real gun parts too. Impressive. We need someone else to get out there and take some better pictures. It might be a Tomenosuke. They also had the option I believe for the slotted screw. But it could also be the elusive "second hero prop" that was rumoured. I do doubt it though, most likely a one of a kind recreation with the intent of making the same as the hero while it used in the film. Exciting find, thank you.

I think it is one of mine, a few people have done some fixing up..
The binding post is real...
But the fit of the Steyr real cap looks a lot like mine, a little loose.
It looks like the real serial number is on it.. making it a copy..
The numbers looks a little large and the 5 is too far away from the first 2 a restamping or the stamps offer here last year?
It does have the pistol frame mounting screw and pin like mine and not like Sids.
The on and off switch looks like mine but the LEDs have large holders, which could be redone as I did my refit...
Can not make out if the on/off is my sticker.
Trigger guard could be one of my metal versions polished and with a new screw...
I hope the owner was not tricked and over paid for one of my models tricked up..
I could be wrong.... but I think I have done my best ideas on it.

I'm on the fence with that one: quality of the pics are one thing, but also the overall look of the gun; sure the knob was replaced as well as the rust...I don't know about you guys, but I've clean my load of rusty weapons and unless someone came up with a steel product restorer you'll always see rust traces/spots on your weapon.
Andy, could you shed light on that "second hero" stuff, because that's the first time I've heard of it .
Besides that, it's interesting pending other pics/explanation. |

So imagine if I had gone to Worldcon armed with only a camera phone.
Anyhoo, I did what I could to enhance these pics... not much there to work with I'm afraid.

Here's the best of the new photos compared to a shot of the real prop (photo by Tomenosuke)

Interesting, I just spotted that the bottom LED has a large holder...
Which is not mine...
Or again someone did a very fine fix up.
And something I need to relook at.
I just did: and RATS another change I will be making....

I'm pretty sure this is a Tomenosuke with a real bindpost. I can already spot alot of differences between this and the hero. The wealthy producer probably got duped into thinking it was the real deal _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

I compared it to my tomenosuke and there are some key differences. the shape of the cylinder cover is more "curvy" on the mystery blaster, the screw inside on the grip frame is at the wrong angle which means its real on this one unlike the one cast in resin on the tomo. The tomo does not have a socket screw just below the slotted screw/weaver knob (easy to add though). and it looks like the shape of the trigger guard is a bit off too.
I agree that the steyr part looks real although Rich's point about the impossibility of the serial number matching is true! Unless it doesn't match....
this is fun to compare though... _________________ I just do eyes. |

The metalwork and finish of the upper receiver are cause for further investigation. The Steyr looks really good. I know Rich and others have experimented with high polishing the replica uppers and using different metal finishes, but the one shown really IMHO looks great (considering the quality of pics).
We need some better pics.
I love the BR universe. One mystery after another. |

The Cons have neve ended, I have seen a lot of my work sold as "oringinal off the set real props" .
When I can on ebay i first contact the seller adn try to set him stright.
Otherwise all I can do just warn anyone who asks me about it.
It is one of the curses I live with...

What I don't understand (stop me if I'm wrong) is that the "Made in Austria" is clear and the number at the end of the canon is out of focus...couldn't the person take the same care with that pic?
Sure, and everyone is in agreement, the Steyr looks real and sharp...but there's a need for more pics/info on that piece for sure. |

The idea of the second "Hero" gun I believe was Phil Steinsneider's, and he talked about it on the RPF. You would have to look into the archived threads to find it. If I find it later I will post a link.
It doesn't match anything of your Earlier work Rich at all (I can find umpteen differences, some major), and I can't see the serial # clearly enough to say it is the same as the hero. It does look like it could match though. I will take a closer look at your new work to see if it is also a better match. It could be I suppose, but whomever did this really knew what they were doing when they put it together. This is one of the best versions of the gun I have ever seen. The one thing that puzzles me is the Damage to the cylinder cover edge to the left of the Steyr lever bottom.
