I think "Star Wars" set the gold standard. After that, we should all be used to it by now. |

Thanks for sharing Andy! YES it sounds great (I'll send my GF to visit her family while I make it an Alien Marathon Viewing Experience) ... |

Agree with the rest of you in general about studio releases , but I have to say and I'm not defending them , but Blue ray does make a defference , clarity and definition are much better - watch our favourite film on DVD, then watch it on Blue-Ray - it's just a 100% better , so I now tend to hold off buying new releases until they go to blue ray - then there is the problem with the firmware on the players - I know I can upgrade my player for a bit yet , - but soon I will not be able to, therefore forcing me to buy another ! that and the multiple releases gets my dander up and that what I really object to |

I completely agree about the picture and sound quality of Blu Ray and do not buy DVD anymore. I still use the Playstation as it is always updating. I know that it is not quite as good as the latest stand alone players but it seems negligable. Will wait a bit longer before i upgrade. _________________ More human than human |

...I managed to fight the "Blu ray flu" until a recent visit with my kids in Portland Oregon (no sales tax state) and was able to buy (COSCO) a Sony player for a hundred bucks...the first movie I watched on it was Avatar the first movie I bought was .....Bladerunner....
...the difference is truly amazing and a blessing for my old eyes....
...for the film fanatic I could not recommend Blu ray higher....very worthy....
...so far I have replaced my old copies of 2001...Akira...Appleseed...Ex Machina...Ghost In The Shell...Dark City...T2...and am eagerly awaiting both the Alien (this year) and Star Wars (next year) franchises....whoo hooo....
as an alternative I understand the newer DVD players (Sony again) have an UPSCALING feature that improves quality for even less money...60 bucks...anyone have any experience with the upscaling machines?... _________________ ...the future is not all it's cracked up to be... |

I just watched the blu ray version af Alien and cannot praise all involved with the project enough as its the finest quality blu ray i have ever seen.
Blu ray is not always what its cracked up to be, some discs are barely better quality than their dvd parents but this is beyond all my expectations. The improved level of detail is beyond astounding.
Cant wait to see the rest. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

I picked up the set on release day and so far have only watched Alien and the 5th disc with all the interviews.
The picture quality on Alien was just amazing! I really have to find some time to watch Aliens as I've heard the Blu-ray version is remarkable. _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

It is amazing; check out the behind the scenes pics on disc 6 in the post-production section of Alien with Image Galleries > Visual Effects . There are some nice photos of the Nostromo model (some we've already seen from Dennis Lowe, Jon Sorenson) plus some cool images at a celebration party they had (cannot remember if it is a 'wrap' party or what). |

Talking about sharp image, I saw the new Panasonic 3-DHD T.V. this week-end and I was blown away by the sharpness and quality of the image: it's even better than regular HD if it's possible
Downside is the size/weight of the glasses (it comes with different nose pieces and that's a +)...I don't see myself seeing a 3 hour movie with these on |
