Controversial decision for the sensor, actually. It's going to be done in resin. I got a pretty good pull from the inside of my CRT tube, basically using it as a mold.
The crt cover itself wasn't really viable without some serious metalworking that I didn't want to get into.
A resin one isn't an ideal solution by any means, but it will certainly suffice until a better idea happens along, as it does, from time to time
Should have pics up of how that's going and the completed upper screen unit in the next day or two. |

AWESOME WORK !!!
It's really going to look like the real thing once completed !
(OK, OK, there's still the ice cube tray problem, but this detail won't curb my enthusiasm !)

Very considerate offer! Thanks!!
If you need any assistance with the molding or Shawn as well LMK. Ill be glad to help anyway I can.
Looks like some of the items will have to be custom made.
I was looking at the thin metal strip (pic you posted) and I beleive thats a strapping thats used in home construction etc. Ill see if I cant locate it.

I thought I had posted, but it looks like I didn't actually do it, but I think the metal strip is the stuff used to cover seems in sheet rock. Forgot what it is called too.

One of my first thoughts was that it was some sort of plaster bead, but I haven't found anything. The perforations are quite fine. |

I have also seen similar stuff for hanging ductwork too, I have found similar stuff in pictures, but I still can't find a name, nor an exact match.

The sensor "tube" on the tracker that I photographed was wood. Only the funnel shaped end closest to teh tracker was aluminum.

Interesting...You can see from your end on pics that's it's wood, I just assumed that they had stuck a wooden wedge in the end.
This screencap definiteley shows a hole in the end:
Richie, do you think the grid pattern on this part was part of the original piece, or added by the art department?

Isn't there a picture showing two of these on the table? Could the differences be another "Hero and Stunt" situation?

Can't tell much from this picture, especially if there is a hole in the sensor on the nearest one.
If one is a stunt sensor...it looks like the same attention to detail was given to both trackers. Color seems to be a little different? Could just be the lighting.
This could be the tracker in the pic above that is facing the wrong direction to see the sensor? No hole.
Simply amazing job on this so far! "Dawn of the greeblies" |

The one in the pic above is the one Richie photographed, ie the Bob Burns tracker. I noted earlier, this has several cosmetic differences to either of the screen-seen trackers.
My guess is that a few pieces have been replaced post-production.
It may be that the wooden sensor was added after the original was lost or damaged. |

Bob's MD seems to match the one in profile pretty well. Maybe it had the wood dowel tube on the fron back then too. You can see missing parts on the one facing the screen with the hole. Maybe they just didn't have enough parts for both and just fabricated the second with the dowel to match the first.

I think you're right. No hole visible here (ignore the arrow)

Simon
I think it was a seperate grid peice added to the gauge type bottom but that is only speculation. Wish I could have spent more time with it.
On the sensor being wood I would guess Bobs is the one pictured next to Ashs head. I would speculate that it was wood from the beginning. It had black pinstripe tape on it that appeared to be original. The paint also matched to a tee so theres no indication it had ever been replaced.
Also. Simon if you need High Res pics I can burn you a CD and ship it to you.

Heres a shot in the dark...the wires that connect to the gauge run to a small greeblie on the front of the tracker. Maybe they were always connected, and the mystery part is some sort of water temperature gauge with the sensor still attached? |
