The Alien DVD special features show some pics of Leviathan and a side cutaway/deck plan photo, with color-coding.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Anybody seen a cleaner/sharper picture?

Might give some insight into the Nostromo's design, since Leviathan was a 'precursor' design?

The Leviathan, I love this design. Really cool. Member 'Incrediblefruit' has been making a model of it and he's doing a great job.

I just managed to get a copy of Ron Cobb's Colorvision book and there's some great pics in there of it, I'll see if later in the week I can add them unless someone else can before I get to it.

Lovely work there by Mr Fruit.
And, if i'm allowed a shameless plug, Issue 4 of Bowerhouse will have a very long, and with tons of photos, article on Martin Bower building a Leviathan for a collector.
Stunning stuff and not to be missed.
*plug over*

Very good work by Incrediblefruit. As a model-maker it's always nice to see stuff started from scratch.

I'd encourage everyone to get an issue of Bowerhouse showing the Leviathan - I've seen a photo of that model and it is stunning. I haven;t posted it as I haven't got permission from Martin to do so, but regardless it is a fantastic model. I'll definetly get a copy of the issue.

Ron Cobb's designs for the Leviathan. I love the line drawing - absolutely superb.

Yup, lovely design - and a lovely colour scheme too.
Also love the whacking great "C" on the front - something Martin happily has recreated on his version.

I must admit I didn't buy it... mainly because what you can see of his LAVIATHAN model doesn't look very convincing on the cover...

Take a look by yourself :

The proportions and details aren't right, compared to Cobb's blueprints and Incrediblefruit's model... I guess Martin Bower reinterpreted the design of the ship with what he had in hand at the time he built it...

Yep, I'm with you on that one Fred...strange because, usually, Martin is better than that (just the look of the MoonBus is incredible); lots of details missing from that Ron Cobb original Confused

I disagree, I think it looks GREAT!
The color of it and the lighting no doubt makes it stand out more, but the yellow coloring on Ron Cobb's designs, and those of Chris Foss, were before they went for the zinc-plate primer color.
It'd be great to see also a zinc-plate primer version like the final Nostromo.

I have not bought the issue yet, but I had seen some images last year from above and whilst it was being built, and it is truly a terrific model.

Martin did do some new interviews and provided new images of Nostromo for the bluray release, including some Leviathan shots, but he was not sure last year whether the Leviathan shots would be included.

Remember also that the Nostromo does not look like Ron Cobb's sketches either

I really like the yellow color idea, but again the photo on the cover made me more think of a Thunderbirds model than a Cobb inspired ship...

Would you have photos of Martin Bower's Leviathan you could share with us here in order to make me change my mind about this model, Graham ?

err.... I have to use a bit of tact here in my answer.

Not ones I can post on the internet. Naturally Martin is trying to make a bit of cash by issuing the magazines he does of his work....so I'll say support Martin by buying the magazine!

I should add that he did ask me not to post them online, so trust me I'm not trying to be difficult.

The thing is Martin's online shop isn't Mac friendly... You just CAN'T place en order when you use Safari ! (and since I don't want to instal Internet Explorer on my Mac, well I won't be able to buy one of his mags)

Shocked

Fred

PS : I totaly understand why you can't post pictures of his Leviathan model here, don't worry mate !

The engine nacelle are completely different than the ones on Cobb's design...and, yes, it looks a lot like a Thunderbird/UFO Gerry Anderson serie-kind-o-ship Confused

Looking forward (no pun intended) to seeing sharper versions of the Leviathan deck plan art on the Blu-ray version of Alien... Wink

...and they are sharper! You can almost make them out, but still far from adequate. Don't have a way to screen-cap them. Lots (lots) of reference shots of Nostromo, too.
