You know what, I cannot remember for the life of me. I think it was an auction sometime last year. Maybe Profiles in History, but cannot be certain.
You can see, look, it’s made of plywood. You can make one and have it in your living room, and the console at the front will hold a cup of tea. In a Weylan-Yutani mug, of course.
I love the landing legs and bridge, great job indeed, keep up the great work. |

Great renderings Steve: keep up the good work
Saw that pic of the seat (needs a good overall )on the RPF a year ago; but it's still good to see it again, thanks for sharing SJ.
As Fred said: the key stays in the slot |

Great work and pics. I do suppose maybe they thought other keys and such could be moved around to other parts of the ship, but never needed it per the script, or extra work to make it happen. It may only have been an idea by one of the prop/set makers that was never part of the movie. It certainly looks like the key would fit, even if it doesn't go into a slot. Just a carry over detail that only members of a rabid fan group would notice

I wanted to compare the Nostromo, to a real object we all know, I call it "Doomed Ships"
I did not create the model the Titanic..

I rethought how the landing gear might fold and created this animation:

It's a little dark, I need to add the light ring, but I wanted you to see it.

Thanks for all the good words guys, I'm doing this because I love the work of others (all the designers and craftsmen who worked on Alien as well as the group here who have such terrific skills and a desire to keep this work alive.) I am happy that you find my labor of love enjoyable.
on a side note...
From what seems like so long ago... (little over a year)

I'm on my third mouse, Sketchup really kills the mouse wheel. Do you have any recommendations SJ?
Wife just got me this one:

so far so good...

I'm still currently using a standard mouse, but haven't really used Sketchup or anything lately, as I'm busy packing and getting stuff ready for a return to England around late Feb.
But I might give this one a try. It's gotten some really good reviews. A colleague used to have one and he loved it, unfortunately I cannot ask more about it because he got laid off due to lack of work.

I shelled out and got a Wacom Intuos 4 a couple of months back on a good deal so I've been playing on and off with that and Painter 11. |

Well done Steve, I love it !!!
Fred
PS : Regarding the mouse issues... I've been a happy user of Wacom tablets since the late 90's... it's the best way to avoid the "frozen spider hand" effect after long hours of work on your computer....

Ahh the dread "Frozen Spider Hand" FiSH for short.... Hate that when it happens! I do have a tablet, but I have a hard time using it for 3D stuff - 2D is great though.
SJ - That mouse looks awesome - I may need to check this out - wonder if I can talk my wife into letting me get the $400 one

I've used the tablet a fair amount in the last few weeks and love it; I had to sell some stuff to get it but I'm glad I did. |

More Nostromo engine room fun...
It is sooo cool to recognize stuff in the details
how any space shuttle parts do you see here?
I see a pay-lode bay with module, and various solid rocket parts
also...
one of these...
OK back to work...

Good eye again The problem with recycling (specially with models) is that you have to perform surgery on one set to add onto another one.
It becomes difficult, if you're a collector, to have original untouched parts/sets (like the one showed in the pics) since they have been radically altered. |
