Not to nit pick, but that particular one, though similar, has different bands on the shot glasses than the hero props.

Yes, that one has the wrong bands on it. I see a lot more of those listed.

While we are on the subject, just how old are these dispenser sets? Ive seen them advertised as 1950s 1960s and even 1920s.

Anyone know?

Also I think it was used in an episode of Star Trek Voyager, and somewhere I read the chrome sphere version with the bowler on top is in A Christmas Story. Guess I could watch that movie again, but I prefer Bad Santa.

Yeppp! Right, I don't zoomed in the pictures.... Shocked
Anyway, the dispenser is cheap... for those who have only the glasses...

The other one I've seen has a price tag of 100$ or so. Too expensive I think, when these sets appears from time to time. Only patience will bring us with the right item at right price!

I never saw a 1920 dispenser (I'm sure it's another kind of design).
It's more a late 40's and 50's kind of a thing...I'm sure they could've produce it into the early 60's, but that's a big maybe. I'm sure somebody on the board will chime in with the right info.

All the sets I have (two "Jupiter alike" globes, one open decanter, and two variant chrome globes are supposed to be from 50's. I don't think exists early, but, who knows...

And, for the dry rubber I use a neoprene protector special spray, silicon based. It's gorgeous to lubrify and protect rubber, but... if you wanna use the pump to serve some beberage, I can't recommend it... will taste strange.... XD

Though my chrome globe is very cool, and similar to stuff seen in the movie, there is only one dispenser to me that is the right one...

Not sure what the statue is next to him that resembles a unicorn is? It can also be seen on the piano.

Has that globe been identified or found? I've seen similar that looked liked bowling balls and opened to reveal the dispenser, but the BR one seems to be a bit oblong.

Is that sculpture a model gun or cannon of some sort? Could be a unicorn with its head bowed, but the base of the whole thing puzzles me.

The image may have been squeezed a little when I cropped it. It is the same one seen here...

The sculpture is still hard to 100% identify.

Yup. That's the one. I guess that's what some are referring to as the "Jupiter Globe"?

Yeah, me! This globe seems to be the planet... isn't? Very Happy

The figure in my case is broken... (bad packaging...) but the other one I have, green, is in good shape.

These globes are very beautiful!

My shots collection:

Open decanter. One missed tray:

Orange globe. Missing figure at top (waiting for a repair):

Not only the figure... three glasses brokes in the mail. Packaging glasses *alltogether* was a bad idea!:

Green globe. All perfect:

Chrome globe. Simple handler. In front, two Pana-Vue 1 slideviewers, like the one seen in the Leon VK scene:

Another chrome globe, with figure at top:

Surprisingly, the top figure is allways the same theme. A discus thrower... (it's ok in English? Razz )

If you want something to lube a rubber seal that isn't going to taste funky and most likely won't break it down, try mineral oil. It can usually be found in most drugstores. It's non-toxic and is used in cosmetics, baby oil, etc. "Mineral oil is generally safe for human contact and consumption and has been approved by the FDA in personal care and cosmetic products, as well as for an additive for food to 10 mg/kg of daily consumption." - Wikipedia

I'm not saying it's perfectly safe (you can look it up yourself) but it's a lot better than using Vaseline or baby oil...

I read somewhere that the CHROME VERSION is sitting on top of an old floor model radio in the movie "A Christmas Story", but I have not confirmed because I dont have it on DVD. Supposedly his "bowling trophy". Anyone?

The top figures can be another subject of discussion (Thanks guys for sharing pics of your collections btw).
The top figure is of a bowler...now, other decanter have other types of figures (birds in some case and depending if the decanter was made in the U.S. or Canada Confused )some have even simple chrome knobs.
When buying that type of object one has to be carefull about that top figure: many have been replaced over the years because they tend to brake or come undone.

Nice one joberg!

The pump is slightly different compared with orange/green globes. A good piece, and the globe is almost perfect (no scratches, no oxid stains...). The knob is also interesting. What's that? I cannot appreciate well.

Thanks Joan...yes, it's in excellent condition; as for the sculpture that serves as a knob it's difficult to describe. Kind of modern in its design. Confused

That finial seems to be a few bowling pins being knocked over with a bowling ball on top.
