It's the stunt but with the amber grip if I'm not mistaken...

It is the hero, I have a color picture, seems they used the hero for everything BUT the stunts, Leon batting the gun out of Deckard's hand and Batty grabbing and pulling Deckard's hand and gun though the wall.

Yes it is the stunt with Amber grips like the one at the Seattle SF Museum. The screenused.com one has painted orange grips that appear to look wood grain, but I believe they were trying to also mimic the amber style grip coloring. These were seen on the police extras. The ones with the added on grips are best seen as Deckard's hand and gun get pulled through the wall by Roy.

It is hard to tell in that pic, but they ones at the SF museum are smaller. Here is a wiki page made by our own Noeland that has different pics of the stunts in it, as well as an attempt at recreating a stunt using RAC parts we suspect...

Look closely adn your can SEE the trasparant and glowing amber grips in all of these shots.

Here is a set of the Amber grips that were made for these stunt guns, that also show the quality of the castings up close...



These were likely rejects, and not used on any of the stunts, but their clear resin casting ability was not the same as it was today. Many of them would have bubbles. Making them for the film too, they would have to have been made quickly and most likely would not have used a vacuum chamber for each set. They were rarely seen that close anyway. I am pretty sure the ones on the hero gun were cut from a sheet or block of acrylic.

If you look closely at the blaster in that photo, the grip is busted up along the back. It looks chewed up, like it's been dropped a hundred times. You can see the rubber frame.

It could also be glue. Glue on the back of a semi clear but uneven surface would make it less refractive inside, and thus make the color of the frame show through more. Just an alternative explanation, but still less likely than the grip being broken.

Chances are they were using the stunt here to fill in where Pris is supposed to kick him, I am sure they had either extra stunts made for this, or at least extra grips to put on it. They had a lot of takes for this shot according to the Dangerous Days documentary. I am sure those grips shattered on almost every take.

I'm no expert on this, but it looks like a stunt version to me. With the exception of the grips, the entire gun is black and there are no working leds. Surely, in the situation he was in in this screen cap, his gun would have been 'armed' in anticipation of encountering a suspect.

I think Rich misspoke. He knows it is the Stunt and not the Hero. I have discussed that particular photograph with him before. That press photo had been around during the RPF discussions too, and I remember the debate over the butt plate being both un-notched and black. He agreed back then it was a stunt with the applied grips. I even think he was the first person to point this photo out to me being a stunt version.

It can be hard to spot the switches between the hero and the stunt.

The shot I have is in color and is just as Deckard goes into the room, and in it he is holding the hero.

The shot posted is later, and I think just before Pris kicks him so it make sense that they would have the stunt then, and looking closer at the picture, I agree it is a cast stunt.

In the film I think Deckard is holding the Hero for that same scene. That would explain the confusion.

I think many of us assume a scene is shot once and all the press/promo photos are made during that shot, but often because of different lighting needs, those photos are often made and staged in between or after the scene is shot, not to mention all the unused versions of the scene that were shot. That is why often the press photos show stuff never seen in the film.
