Anybody heard about the new ALIEN behind-the-scenes book coming out in October (US): Alien Vault: The Definitive Story of the Making of the Film, by
Ian Nathan?
http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Vault-Definitive-Story-Making/dp/0760341125
Product Description
Alien Vault reveals the details behind the making of the groundbreaking 1979 science-fiction horror film, one of the cult classics of the genre. This licensed, behind-the-scenes guide examines the creation of the movie via director Ridley Scott’s hand-drawn storyboards, concept sketches, script pages, spaceship blueprints, never-before-seen production photos, and rare collectible memorabilia.
About the Author
Ian Nathan is a veteran film critic and author. He lives in London, England.
I'm hoping it's as good as it sounds, but am not familiar with the author. |

More details from Amazon UK:
Product Description
Product Description
For more than thirty years, audiences have been simultaneously captivated and appalled as the spaceship Nostromo is invaded and its crew stalked by a terrifying parasitic creature. From the gore of the infant alien bursting from Kane’s chest to the mounting claustrophobia as Ripley discovers the monster has followed her into the escape shuttle, Alien is a chilling masterpiece. Now, ALIEN VAULT opens a portal into the making of this legendary film, tracing its path from embryonic concept to fully-fledged box office phenomenon. Featured herein are director Ridley Scott’s own annotated storyboards, Polaroids and script pages; the elegant but disturbing concept artwork of H.R. Giger; sketches and construction blueprints for the Nostromo; costume designs by Moebius; a treasure trove of never-before-seen photographs of the cast and crew; and ten meticulously reproduced artefacts, enclosed in vellum envelopes, for readers to remove and examine more closely. Fully authorized and illustrated throughout, ALIEN VAULT is the ultimate tribute to a movie that changed cinema for ever.
About the Author
Ian Nathan has been a writer, producer, broadcaster and magazine editor for 20 years. As executive editor of Empire, the world’s leading film magazine, he commissions, edits and writes articles on the full breadth of cinema. The work of Sir Ridley Scott, in particular the extraordinary Alien, has been seminal in his understanding of what film can achieve and how much there is to discover within it. |

As Fred said to me in an earlier email, now you know why I put the big smiley in the earlier post!
I like the slipcover design of the book, wasn't expecting that. |

Um.. no offence taken Unfortunately the pic resized when I posted it in the message - the original is a lot sharper!
The original is at www.aarum press.co.uk in the autumn/winter catalog ( downloadable PDF)

Ha, I wish! Sadly I don't get paid for my contribution, and probably alot of the other contributers don't either.
Nice to be a part of it, though. |

Space Jockey:
Well, but getting your name out there can't hurt. I remember some of the Star Wars and Star Trek blueprinters who started with fan pubs then produced enough quality material to be able to negotiate themselves into productive SF illustration careers.
Your quality is AMAZING and your devotion to detail also. You could spend the next ten years blueprinting ALIEN, much less ALIENS (yes, I've been watching your Sulaco progress ). I continue to think about the interior Nostromo 'print and have begun catalogueing references in the film and novelization.
The books look to be of high quality and including your work in it, even if paid only by being allow to contribute, is worth being proud of.
[Lest you think I'm getting maudlin, I'm really just brown-nosing for a free Sulaco 'print when it's done. Hahahahahahahahaha!)
Sincerely,
FenGiddel86 |
