I have this awesome 3-axis mill, tons of supplies, and yet I feel completely uninspired to sit down and make something.

Grr.

That would be nice!

I could also use a new Luke ROTJ Lightsaber as I sold my MR one...

Well, here's my max work area on the machine: 6 inches x 4 inches x 2 3/8 inches. So unless the object can be broken down into parts that size, milling would be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

Amish -- I can't lathe on this mill, so I can't make a saber.

Here are some pics of things I've made with it -- I have yet to machine metal with it as it REALLY wears the bits and the motor of the machine:

Sorry it took me so long to get back I am simply amazed at what you can do.

What type of a machine is it? Is there a website?

I wish I could think of something cool, but I am at a loss of ideas!

What are your plans for Serenity, Tif? I am, to say the least, intrigued.

Well...the model was a free 3D one that was floating around the Internets and I wanted to test the process of converting 3D imagery to a toolpath.

And that's about as far as it went Smile

Ahh, I have seen others use that machine as well. Very nice!!

I understand that restrictions on the device, but I was curious if it could create replicas such as the Golden Gun?

I know others out there have created this prop, but I am curious if your machine can create things such as this.

Hmm....do you have blueprints? I think it would be completely doable -- with the exception of the barrel.

No i dont Sad Could the barrel not be done because of it's shape or because it's hollow?

Just curious.. I will look around for prints or specs or something.

I think the shape is the killer on the barrel, Tom. You'd probably need a lathe for that part, though the rest looks do-able. Maybe another member with a lathe could chime in and offer his/her skills for that part. I know that I'd definitely be interested in one of these.

Thanks Pete! I kow SD Studios held the license for a while, but I am unsure if anyone else holds it currently.

I have been searching for prints and such, but I have not come up with anything. Otherwise, it will remain in my want list for props if it ever pops up

What do you think of doing the Phaser I like the other Tom suggested?

The discussion of Adama's lighter has been split off from here, leaving Tiffany's original thread for it's intended purpose.

We now return you to your requested inspirational thread.
