Here is a really cool resin kit I found today with the help of gaff87.. This prop is just incredible, I wrote the guy and it is available.. a full size "ALIEN FLAMER" the casting looks awesome, and the tutorial is well done on the site. I imagine these pics will spark some interest, I for one am certainly getting one for myself. I feel like I have a million projects going on, but this I cant pass up even just to tuck away for a "rainy day" when I get caught up with my other projects... check this out...

Just some background on this kit. I built the original pattern back in the 90's and made a deal with Cris A for him offer them. I wasn't totally happy with the quality of the kit he produced, and soon decided to learn how to mold and cast things for myself, so I that could better manage quality control.

Cris has unfortunately since developed a reputation for recasting that eventually led him to be banned from the rpf, and while I no longer have any issues with him, there are many who do, most having to do with the overall quality of his work. Now, I've heard he's improved his skill set since, but I still have the original pattern and I can tell you it's woefully innaccurate.

I'm mulling over the idea of a complete redo of it (using even better references than I had originally) but it won't happen until later this year.

Thank you for clearing that up for us Morganthirteen! I could spot the parts that needed fixing, for example, the nozzle, but I planned on replacing that anyway with a metal one, along with the barrel and other stuff some details on one side off a bit.

This guy Cris had mentioned to me that he did this kit with you awhile back. The problem is, since only Cris has this kit available now, it is pretty much the only option getting this prop for the time being.

I avoid recasting discussions for one , cos I can tell already another site out there (not rpf) is going to get sued big time. I am happy you have a level headed approach and excellent background information on this project, and lack of animosity for the past.

what can we do to help?
I am sure many here at propsummit would help you with your project, please let us know.

A Nostromo flame-thrower is needed in the bare area of my living room wall, My wife has already moved the "girly" beach paintings to another room, so I have been successful so far in my quest to hijack the living room with props.

It is the great members and the information they provide that make propsummit.com the best place in our little Ridley Scott "niche" ..

You're very welcome, and if I wasn't clear in my earlier post I have no issue at all with Cris still offering this kit, and as it's the only one out there you should certainly go for it. I just wanted to be fair and let you know it's not one I'm terribly proud because of it's lack of accuracy.

I've had more than my share of pieces recast by someone at one point or another, but there comes a point when you just can't take it personally. I may not approve of course, but I've usually moved on to other things by the time it happens and life's too short.

As for your offer to help I greatly appreciate it, and I'll be sure to let everyone know when it starts to moves forward.

all I can say is wow.....what a great attitude... that does stink that peoples work gets copied, I would probably get pretty worked up myself if my kits got copied, but your right. I guess life is too short. I have seen your stuff and it is top-notch! we cannot wait to see the improved version of the flamethrower ! please post it here and let us know when you get started and post pics for us. skinjob66 and phase pistol are reference pic madmen, and I imagine they can get some really great pics for the project.

The Nostromo Pistols by the way are Fantastic!!!!

Here's mine. Got the original kit back when Chris Adrian first offered them,

I've reworked quite a few of the details. The emitter is scratch-built, and the fuel tanks are vintagel metal bail bottles that were used on the original prop.

I couldn't track down an exact match for the connector yoke, but did score a similar vintage steel one.

The rear cylinder is aluminium and the strap hooks and numerous other details have been accurised, I'm pretty happy wit her, but would still like a more accurate emitter.
