It took me over a decade to finish this piece, but here it is, the Grappling Hook Gun that Ripley uses at the film's climax against that pesky 8th Passenger....

I started with a Vintage Mares Snub Nose Harpoon Gun and built it up slowly over the years, digging for any other helpful reference. It was a little frustrating but I'm glad I never got so impatient that I went ahead and molded it up before I had all the information I felt I needed to do it justice.

To be honest, there is an element of idealization and interpretation running through the piece. There was simply not enough reference in some areas to do anything other than a "best guess", but I think the overall look is faithful enough...

I should have one painted up in a few days.

Thanks for looking!

Shawn

Thanks, guys. The only thing I've yet to see is how the color scheme is going to look when finished. The piece looked like it was gloss black, with everything above the grip and trigger guard given the same bronze overspray as the nostromo pistols.

Fred, Yes! Everything not primer gray in the photo is made out of aluminum! I am making 15 total kits and they will all have the same aluminum pieces...!

Awesome grabs, Karl! Thank you.

I don't think I've ever spent as much time fretting over a project as much as I did this one. A lot of what I've done is really more of an "interpretation" of the original. It's so obscured in the film and the photos of the "screen used" one show it missing many original pieces and has had obvious (inaccurate) repair work done to it since, so that making a faithful replica was very challenging.

I'm glad to see it completed, but it wasn't a joyride. lol

TFS those screen caps Karl...as for any project, it's always a challenge; most of those props were made in the 70's, planet UK Wink

Here's a finished one. It's bronze with a black grip, and some airbrushed detailing for weathering (which is very light, so of course the flash washes it out).
