Max,
By the way...
That clock is so cool!
TS

Andy,
I can't say what V8 means on Decks I.D. (because I don't know.)
But I always felt if Batty was n.6.
Deck must be n.7 or better ... Not stronger, but higher management.

But the pleasure is to wonder what it means... It must mean something,
Right?

Thanks Tom. Having read through most of your postings, it seemed that perhaps many pieces and ideas were never too well defined, but I appreciate you sharing the thought that was put into each, however vague or hazy it might have been.

It gives us a direction, or inspiration to create our extrapolations, feeling maybe we could playing be in or near the ballpark.

I've been working, when time permits, on 1/12 scale figures to accompany Randy Cooper's studio scale Spinner. It's a slow process, falling behind other demands on time. But on the bases for the figures I am assigning numbers and hinting at definitions, so it was somewhat amusing when you mentioned the possible "idea" behind the <numbers>.

As always - fascinating and a pleasure. Thanks! - R13

I must say, I miss the hands-on of the 80's. As much as I am addicted to the MAC, with it goods and evils, there's nothing like getting your hands dirty, tracing and inking and knifing and painting. And there's a more honest feel of accomplishment to the work, even when using the clipart books.

And there's all those "happy accidents", with no UNDOs.

Very late to this discussion. Just read it all and had a major nerd-gasm. Thanks Tom!

To all: you are all welcome.
I'm happy to help when I can.

To clutch,
Better late than never, right?
You are welcome.
Oh, where are you on this ball?

No doubt. This thread should be archived for future reference. I currently reside in the country music capital of the world (Nashville TN), although I do not like country music. Smile

Clutch,
Thanks.
That's too bad...a diabetic working in a candy store...
Perhaps you can learn to like country...
Start with some cross-over sounds, Rockabilly, blue grass, mountain music, The Band,
early Elvis, Everly Bros, Ricky Nelson...
Even try some of Ringo's first tunes ...it could start to grow on you...and
Try some orchestral Copeland... Rodeo... Steven Foster...
Really there's a bit of country in most American music...
And since you're in "Country, country" well it's like being in Rome and not liking pasta.

And if all that fails, Nashville is a recording Mecca of the world and all types of music travels there
so I bet you could hear any style you do like.

You can probably tell I love music. Sorry to babble on.

Hey Tom, thanks for posting those V numbers!

I saw on another topic about how you wanted to change the kanji on the Creative Evolution magazine. I took some Japanese while in college, so I went ahead and added some easter egg kanji that kinda makes sense and jives with the whole BR universe.

The two sets of kanji on the left read: "Artificial Person" and "Pleasure Girl", while the set of kanji on the right read "Tears" and "Rain". Underneath each kanji is katakana that reads out with your name, along with David Snyder and Sherman Labby. Hope you like it!

Max,
Like it?
I love it!
Thanks sooooooo much for fixing that.
I must tell you I was embarrassed with that psudo Japanese on that magazine cover.
I went to so much trouble to get the Japanese correct elsewhere
( neons, telephone, car graphics ) then they come up and expect
to walk off with a prop like ordering a cup of coffee. Jeeze!

Yours is a much classier magazine, and your article headlines are spot on.

And to give bi lines to the crew fits the standards set in 1981 . Thanks.

Good job, Max.

Max -

Nice work! You have an advantage on us mono-lingual geeks. I researched japanese calligraphies when I was trying to solve the riddles of FASH, but it was "greek" to me. I did learn that it's not as simple as translating letter per letter.

TEMPONAUT helped a lot, but I had more questions than he had time.

Check your PMs.

Some time ago I stumbled across a behind-the-scenes image from BR, which influenced the direction I later took for my FASH cover. I just saw that same photo offered up on eBay. While mine is not accurate to the image you've shared, it helped to fill in the void, at the time with something that seemed valid.

Gotta say the journey was as much fun as the destinations you've shared here. Smile Almost.

Clutch: Tom's right about country music, maybe some old Hank William and early Johnny Cash and Elvis, so many influences on many sides (Blues, Jazz, Rock & Roll, etc...).

Fantastic cover Max and a great way to give kudos to those who were the pillars of Blade Runner Cool

Dave, looks like a winner to me with that pic and that Fash cover...was a good try at the time Wink

Sorry to veer off topic but I guess the country classics are ok. I can still recite Freddy Fender and George Jones. Lol! And you are right about the area. I'm seeing Iron Maiden in Sept. Cool

Love that cover, Max! Oh, and love the Fash too!

Glad you like it, Tom! I really apperciate that.

* * *

I have another question for you, if that's okay. I was curious about this decal that's seen on the spinner.

Is that your work? And if so, do you happen to have any more information on it? All I know about it is that the Japanese kanji reads: 禁止進入 / "No Entry".

Synamax, I'd like to add that this sticker was also used in the Noodle bar, on what looks like a water fountain (at least to me)... This was discussed in another thread moons ago but I couldn't find it and provide a link, sorry in advance for that.

Hi Fred, here's the thread, along with a picture with what you were talking about.

Yes this was one of mine but a late addition.
I did one other graphic for the windshield ( not Japanese) and SRS
pointed to the side window and said put a clear sticker
with red Japanese right here.

I don't have a copy of that. I grabbed a few
translated pieces and jammed them together.
The BR sign shop made those up .

I think it's upsidedown at the noodle bar.

This is exactly what I was saying when I said Ridley
was never finished.

Just to be clear:
I wish all the text I used in BR
actually had important meaning.
Really I tried. But Japanese was
an added challenge because I
couldn't read it.
