Straight up Dude! That stand is the f**king tits!!
I tip my hat. Perfect! that's the only way to describe it.
..And, I'm going to need a few more. So, how goes the repairs?
Jo. I had compared the Kit on Pro color to an amber necklace my mother
has. It's the only access I have to "true" amber. & it's on the $.
I took a photo on my iPhone, but it came out useless. & I was rushed.
There is a mineral & stone place about an hr from me. I buy crystals
for my lightsabers there. next time I go I score some natural amber. _________________ Que la Force soit avec toi |

My CNC is up and operational again, but I've got to complete the barrels, and a few other projects, before I can get around to making more stands. _________________ Dave

hi Dave / all
since you mentioned stands i came up with this for lighting them up watch lumen.
OK no batteries to light them so you cant really see it until it goes dark but i think it looks OK.
oh also
Dave just a point to note if you check the writing on my stands you will notice that one has thicker font than the other this is not criticism just a heads up as i like both
what ya thinks

Colin,
Very Cool! The engraving lights up like neon.
Variations in the thickness of the plex can effect the depth of the engraving, and thus the width of the letters. I re-zero the cutter for each individual piece but even a few thousanths of an inch can make a visible difference with lettering so small. I'm glad you are happy with both.
cheers

I'm going to need one of those display stands!
Is it possible to get it without the lettering?
Thanks! |

I have offered to cut some checkering for Karl to use on the his grips. After careful analysis of both the Tomenosuke grips and the photos of the hero grips I have come up with the following relevant dimensions, at least from the stand point of milling the checkering:
Parallel spacing, cut to cut = .064 inches
Angle of crossing vee cuts = 38 degrees
Angle of lengthwise cuts from butt plate = 87 degrees
The vees were cut with a 90 degree profile vee bit.
The actual point to point spacing of the diamonds, works out to 5 in just under an inch, .989 inches, to be exact.

That's great, Dave!
I'm really excited to be working with Dave on this and very grateful for his assistance.
I was initially going to have the checker pattern laser cut, but Dave rightly pointed out that it would be more accurate if it were milled.
I agree.
Thanks Dave,
Karl |

I believe there is a tool that gunsmiths use to do this on wood.
Would a hard wood work?

Rich,
Dave and I have discussed this at length already.
A checkering tool is indeed used by gunsmiths to produce the checkering on wood. I doubt this type of tool was used on the original acrylic though.
Regardless, Dave is certain we'll get a cleaner, sharper and more accurate checker pattern if we use his mill. I agree.
So, that's the course of action we've decided upon.

The advantage of the gunsmith checkering tool is that it can be used on curved surfaces, which is a situation we don't have to deal with. _________________ Dave

Bear with us.

We'll get there, just hang in there.
