Hi all,

Time for an introduction I think.
I have been lurking on this forum for several months now, so time to become visible. My sad and sorry tale began several months ago when I decided to take the redundancy package from work and spend a few bob on movie memorabilia for the hall and stairs (posters and autographs) as a long time BR fan I started there with a poster, then thought how nice the poster would look with a plastic blaster beside it, then I found Propsummit.
So the dark obsession began.
Some odds and ends off e-bay, and then the Offworld Blaster.
Only to find that the blaster had the wrong calibre frame, initially I thought I could live with this but this inconsistency started to eat away at me, I have made a few mods to the Offworld and will make a few more yet but the goal is to create a proper 44 frame sized blaster.
This sorry venture (described as a sickness on another post) has led me to buy a small lathe and milling machine and shortly demolish and rebuild the garage to house them and also purchase what may have been the only available 44 Bulldog in the UK.
Mods to Offword so far (my idea is for a deluxe version with good finish and a few stainless bits and pieces) hand made catch, stainless buttplate, my own interpretation of receiver end and retracting bolt, and improvements to cylinder latch, also freeing up ejector mechanism to take 38 cartridges.
Work is still in progress on frame and it will be re painted in due course.
I have added some photos of work so far, and maybe further updates in future, this could be a long job.

Regards to all,

Hi,

You're among the very seriously obsessed here Smile

Looks great so far.

I assume the bulldog is legally deactivated, as you're in the UK.
If you're going to chop the bulldog's barrel and replace it, I urge you to have a gunsmith do the work and present the modified piece to the proof house on your behalf. It'll need recertification to remain legal.

Look forward to seeing it finished.
(Cue shameless plug) If you need a holster for it, I'm your man!

Smile

Cheers,

Karl

No plans to chop the Bulldog as this is a special edition milestone version.
Only planning to use for reference and display for now. (yes it is certified deactivated)

Oh, OK.

I think I saw that one when I was foolishly thinking about a 'real parts' blaster.
My Mrs. soon disabused me of the notion by beating me repeatedly about the head and neck with our bank book Smile

Have fun with the build and I'll pre-empt Joberg and say don't forget to post pictures!

Cheers,

Karl

It always starts with one innocuous spark that can lead to an inferno. Great work!

The good thing about the OWM is that the Steyr receiver is very close in size to the real deal.

Do you have any plans of offering any of those machined parts made to order?

That front end cap looks really nice.

Welcome to the "Dark Obsession" and glad you are not cutting up that beautiful bulldog. Good luck, building and collecting these replicas in the UK seems especially difficult.

I took the initiative to add the tags to your pics so we didn't have to click on them to see them. Hope that isn't a problem?

A little help for UK guys.
I've come up w/ a method of disguising parts, as car parts. Combined w/
a detailed itemized list of (BS) as to what they are. To humor customs.
Thus far, it's worked like a charm. I even got fake brass bullets through.

So if you run into issues? Drop me a PM & I'll see if I help.

That engraved Bulldog is a work of art. It would be a crime to chop the barrel and shroud it in parts. Glad to see you're keeping it as is. Good luck with your build.

andy, thanks for the tag addition....how do you do that ?

hirohawa, some of the stuff I want to do I'm not sure that I'm capable of doing yet. I don't envisage making multiple pieces of anything but that may change. What I intend doing is to post updates of any work in progress.

Thanks for the interest guys,

I know we probably need a page showing some of the important basics in using Bulletin Board Code and Tags. Many of us that have been online for decades know it well enough to get by, so we forget it isn't common knowledge.

You can use the control panel when making a post to get the tags and such into it, but it isn't as easy as some of the new boards unless you know some important stuff. Mostly in order to make the link for an image to appear you have to highlight image link with no spaces at the front or end of the url, and click the [Img] button in the control panel. It will then add the tags on the end just like this.... You can type them out yourself too.

Welcome aboard Tecman (please, step away from that wallet of yours, it's a given around here...unless the wife controls the check-book Wink )

Good luck on the transfos (it's looking good already) and please, NO, don't cut that beautiful gun
