Andy is right about the black and white design for dress shoes: Spectators.
But those are a type of B & W sneakers and we tried, years ago, to identify those ones in particular...but no luck
Btw there's a lot of different types of two-toned shoes: Bromfields, Ambassadors (square tips), Leland, and Spectators (wing-tips). |

They have the same pointed toe as the shoes, not like sneakers it looks like to me.

I solved my dilemma about which head to display Scott's Pris with, by bashing a second figure. Here she is completed ...
Now I'm getting excited about Gaff |

Okay- going back to the question: black or brown coat?
This is the darkest brown fabric with the proper "wool like" texture available. The same texture can be found in black (the black fabric shown is just for color comparison).
I did a lighting test adjusting the white balance on my camera. No value changes between pictures.
You can see the impact this has on both colors. Making the Brown greenish to more reddish and black warm and cool.
The last image I adjusted the colors to match what is in hand (though after running it through photobucket it has change slightly; though still relatively close.)
So which do you prefer?
Is this brown dark enough or is black a better choice?

Cheers Scott, I made a couple of changes after the earlier pics I showed you, as I wanted to do your Pris head justice.
And back to the main topic (with apologies for any slight derailment ), I think the brown looks a good match for the shots where Gaff's coat is dry. When wet it appears darker. I still think go with the dark brown. |

Considering in this photo the police officers coat also looks brown, knowing it is black Vinyl, I don't think it should be used for comparison, especially as a promo shot never seen on film.
I think that photo is either overly affected by the lighting, or even sepia tinted in another way. Also in the film it really looks like the coat is black in just about every lighting seen on screen.
It is possible the coat is slightly tinted, but from all the photos I have seen and cross compared, I am certain his coat is supposed to be all black. A good black fabric will look colored in a lighting that may reflect more off of the material, or its underlying color. The police officers coat seems to confirm my suspicions.
I go with black.

I agree with the BLACK version. Seems to fit better in the color scheme chosen by the art department and costume designer. IMVHO. _________________ I've had people walk out on me before, but never when i was being so charming |
