I think a few of you know that I've been planning a web-based miniseries for a while now, set in a "used future" that will visually reference some of our favorite films. Influences include Outland, ALIEN, Silent Running, Blade Runner and even early Red Dwarf. The series will be titled "Last Flight of the Freya 7" and will run for six episodes.

We are going to do a Kickstarter campaign in the very near future, so we built sections of some of the sets to give a feel for how it will look. Here's another shot of the cockpit with a few familiar items:

The Galley also has a few visual references to Aliens (the trays and locker), and Akira (the design on the leather jacket).

While the Freya 7 herself will be an entirely original ship, we are sneaking in a few familiar faces in the background such as this maintenance shuttle:

I'll update this thread as progress continues on this project. I hope folks like it!

Thanks guys! If the fund raising doesn't come through I still get to keep the cockpit set, so that's pretty cool! We're working on the Kickstarter video now and it's looking pretty good. I'll keep folks posted!

I haven't updated this in a while, but we're still working hard on it.

Here for your pleasure is a shot of the Freya 7 herself. I'll post some behind-the-scenes shots of her construction soon. At nearly four feet long she's the largest model I've ever built!

This past weekend we did a camera test on some of the props and costumes in one of the locations we'll be shooting in. You guys will no doubt recognize some familiar bits on the jacket Cool

This structure is a leftover from the Cold War and is absolutely beautiful. We were plotting out the action for the scene in the daylight, but the actual filming will be at night so a lot of this detail will only be seen in glimpses as the flashlight pans around the room.

Thanks Joberg! I found the site will driving around with my sons one day. It's nearly walking distance from my house and the owner has been very accomodating. Here's more information on its wartime history:

Southern Maine has a pretty interesting history in relation to the big wars of the last century. Actually even further back come to think of it as some of our forts were built to defend boat lanes against Confederate attacks during the Civil War.

Costuming was a huge part of what made Alien so believable, so I wanted to bring some of the elements I liked best over to my own project. Here's an undershirt for one of the crew:

To give it a used feel I made the patch "subdued" by using iron-on trasfers designed for light fabrics on a piece of olive drab cloth/ The shirt itself is military surplus.

Then there are coats for the crew to wear:

This leather one is of course inspired by Parker's jacket.

This one is for the captain. It was a Dutch military jacket and is nicely worn already. I did three passes in different colors on the back stencil to distress the letters a bit.

Next came the fun part, laces!

Getting there...

And one side is done! In the images from the Mitre shoot above you can see how it looks on someone. It's a subtle detail but it really nicely evokes the coats worn by Dallas and Kane.

I also opted for the United Americas flag for the uniforms:

These still needed to be surged, but again in the photos from the Mitre shoot you can see how they look on the finished coat.

Now by and large I want to use models exclusively for the miniseries, but when Jan Rükr offered to make me my own ship I really couldn't say no!

The USS Conrad has only a small role in the film, but it will be fun to see her on screen in some form as I couldn't have afforded to build her as a full model at the scale we need.

Oh, and here is a "clean shot" of the ship patches; most of the ones in the photos above have been distressed already.

I kept a lot of the feel of the Nostromo patch, but altered the color scheme and the central image quite a bit.

the "ILS" stands for Independent Lading Shuttle (The Freya's ship designation), but taken as a whole is also a pun based on the title of a certain author's short story Cool

Excellent stuff you've created for the movie. When you do almost everything yourself, you realize how much work it is to create a short.

Yes the lacing of the jackets: looks good btw, but lots of work for sure.
Ah yes, the cardboard ship (saw his on the RPF) is a fantastic build (big for sure).

Keep up the good work, it's all looking good Cool

Wow guys, thanks so much for your awesome comments! It really means a lot to me. I'm hoping to have some more goodies to share really soon, especially once we start doing the costume fittings. I'll be happy to see someone besides me in all these photos!
