Recently I had the pleasure of working with Ridley's son Jake Scott who is a successful director in his own right.
Jake had a few interesting anecdotes to share about life with Ridley. One of which was a behind the scenes tale of how the "Final Scene" footage from the Shining ended up in Ridley's hands.

My big question for him was about the blaster. During a lull while lighting had the floor I asked him if Ridley ended up with a hero blaster.

It's always been my contention that there was more than one Hero Blaster and that one is missing. A set term I'm sure many of you know is "Two is one and one is none."

One point that has worked against me is the presence of those damn white wires on the left side. If there were only one Hero and something broke they would need to rig it quickly and maybe those wires were the result.
Otherwise they would have swapped out the Hero for the back up and kept on their merry way.

Anyway, Jake's answer to my question about Ridley having a second Hero was,
"No, I don't think so. Not many Sci-Fi momentos." Although he did admit to not knowing for sure but I think it would stand out. He said he would ask and actually had his phone out to text but the lull in work was over and the moment was lost.
He did, however inform me of Ridley's extensive helmet display of head gear from the movies he's made. He keeps them on display at home and in his offices.
One interesting Sci Fi prop he kept was the self destruct cylinders from the Nostromo in Alien. He had one rigged out as a cigar lighter on a table with a flame out the top.

Thanks for sharing. That would be great to see his display of helmets.

TFS this great story! Always better to hear it from the people involved (in this case one degree of separation)...weird that he doesn't collect more Sci-Fi pieces Confused

As we've discussed previously, the general understanding is that there was only one hero gun made for the movie and that, unlike the Voight-Kampff machine (one was made, but later transformed to accommodate, what we believe, different size screens) a gun is much more difficult to build, but also difficult to replace/modify during principal photography

I've been working with Jake on a few more projects over the last few months.
I don't like to pry but when the subject of chess came up, I had to ask.
It seems very likely that Tyrell's chess set ended up in Ridley's London office.
He also recalls Ridley having Tyrell's glasses.

An intersting tidbit or two from Alien: It was a teenage Jake who was under the table working the rig on the exploding chest since they needed someone small enough to fit under the table with the whole Nostromo crew standing around it.
Also, in the wide shot of the Nostromo crew members walking towards the space jockey ship near the egg field, it was actually Jake, his brother and another kid in the, as he recalls, unventilated suits on a hot stage with CO2 blasts nearly knocking them over. Sounds like a pretty cool place to grow up!

TFS those stories with us robotprops Cool Well, at least he has some of the BRf props in his office. That chess game is a rarity on the market and if you see it, be ready to part with your wallet.

As for the glasses, Geoff (Ridleyville) had a spare pair in his collection.

Btw, are you based in Vancouver?

TFS Robotprops, I think the one burning two part question that has haunted this forum not related to the gun is the Deckard`s Wallet Badge/No Badge and if yes,
based on existing or new production designed dilemma. Just a thought and don't want to start a flood of Q and A with SOSRS on you.

Tim.

I think that badge/ no badge question needs to be answered by the man himself.
One day on set while there was a bit of chatter and such, Jake's phone rang and he goes, "Oh, hi Dad" ( or whatever he really said). You've never heard a room go so quiet so fast.

If I get a chance to bend his ear on the subject, I will, but I don't know when I'll see the RSA gang again...

Would be nice if SRS was a member of the Propsummit family ...well, member is such a common name; let's say Premium Person Very Happy , then some, if not all, of our questions would be answered.

P.S.
I can't believe I forgot this.
The UK Voight Kampf also ended up in SRS's UK office.

Shocked That's it, my next trip is at SRS office in the U.K. ...but then again two options come to mind:

1. He has, indeed, the U.K V.K (the transformed one with the special screens fitted for the U.K. shot)...then I'm not jealous Wink

2. He refurbished to its original form the V.K. built by Mike Fink and al...then I'm going to England Laughing

Jake said it wasn't in working order. To what degree he couldn't say. Probably just a power supply issue.
This would leave me to believe that it's the UK refit that was used and then left as is.
