Well, here's that solid violet-gray shirt:

Maybe I'm nuts, but I could swear I've seen the navy tie with polka dots in the film (or at least in stills). Time to do some close scanning.

Good eye for the different shirt Metrokab, but not the violet one. It's the one with the brown designs and the knitted tie (with the leaf, the stem and that funky triangle at the base).

And all those years I thought it was something else Confused

Joberg may be right, but the limited lighting in BR, paired with color shifts from scene to scene, makes it difficult to be certain exactly what you are seeing. Is the shirt violet, gray or brown? Comparing shots from various scenes with those taken years later at auctions in brighter light, aside from recognizable patterns or textures, often reduces any answer to an opinion, or a guess. Using Photoshop to lighten the image can help, but it can also just as easily confuse things further -

Looking closely at the collar, it does appear that there is a slight texture in the shirt at left that matches the shirt on the right, although the colors vary wildly.

Thanks for that Dave, as you see and compared to the blue of Sebastian' s jacket, I would qualify the shirt as a kinda taupe/brownish colour.
As for the tie, it is the knitted one posted before.

Probably not helping much. The shirt in the collection is shot in very different lighting - you're probably never gonna get a match to that screen cap..

I have been collecting vintage knit ties that remind me of the ones in the film. No matches yet but I do have some pretty cool ones, and will post some photos later.

Very nice ties Andy Cool Darthwolf, sorry I didn't see that the tie was a nit on the pic (maybe the quality of the pic was the reason Wink )

If you look at the side-by-side here, I think this is the same shirt and tie combination.
Again lighting shifts the colors, fools the eyes. I think this is a knit as well -

__________

Nice collection, Andy. Dare I say, sometimes I think we do get too married to the idea of matching the film exactly. These are certainly worthy of a Deckard or Bryant. Gaff was a different animal. : )

I only wish I'd kept the few I had in the 80's when they came back in fashion briefly, but even then, none of those where as distinctive as those in Andy's collection.

Maybe I'm over simplifying.. but I wonder if you could just take a solid brown knit tie (something like http://www.thetiebar.com/product/34245) and mask off the design and use bleach to make it grey? I might give it a try.

Nice idea centech. I do think the bleach would probably bleed, but using the tie you gave the link too to customize into Deckard's tie would probably work. Paint, embroidering the design into it, or even a dry chemical bleach done by hand so it doesn't get too deep into the tie maybe? Hmmmm

Good idea centech...don't forget to respect the zig-zag pattern the nit makes. Some wool reacts badly to bleach (yellowish colour) and the bleach route is somewhat hard to control, even with a Q-Tip.

As Andy mentioned, look for pens made for fabric/wool and you'll have a better control/result with these.

Good luck

I did a quick DIY attempt on the 'mystery tie'.

Here it is on, I flipped the photo since I took it in the mirror so the tie looks right.
(please ignore the coffee stained t-shirt.. it's a lazy sunday xD)

And a closup of it off.. You can see that some of the masking was a bit rough.. I'm going to carefull try and fix that to get cleaner lines.

Good try, but there's no "straight lines" on this tie. Each white stitch should look like a zig-zag when applied on the black stitching.
So you'll have to paint, by hand, each white stich, respecting the way of its natural line i.e. it shouldn't be a continuous white straight line/stitch.

Good luck
