|
|
I've seen a lot of different Deckard I.D. designs around on these threads. Has anyone created a definitive I.D. design, based on WorldCon images or screen shots from the new high-def releases? What's the best available evidence for the design used in the film? _________________ Bill Hunt, Editor

Well I did.. based on Tom Southwell's line art that can be seen in one of the DVD documentaries, plus details from my worldcon photos.
The line art shows "R. DECKARD XV" reversed out of a black background... but the screenused ID seems to have a white rectangle with the name typed on that.
So I just modified the Worldcon design to reflect Deckard.

Great photos!
The screen-used badge also seems to have a trio of gray diamond or triangle shapes at the bottom center, between the photo and <8> symbol, rather than the circle of circuitry patterns. Deckard's fingertip is pointing right at it. Interesting.
Is that circle on your design from the Worldcon badge? I was actually at Worldcon and saw the gun, but for some reason I must have missed the badge in the display case. _________________ Bill Hunt, Editor

All right! Another Worldcon Vet.
Yes the patterns on my version of the ID card design are those from the ID card prop seen at the convention.
I believe that the round "dot pattern" devolves into the commonly perceived cloverleaf pattern due to an optical illusion caused by low resolution and blurred camera focus.
Another piece of evidence is aa prop made for the "V" TV show. This is a green card with a piece of the artwork from the Blade Runner ID in the middle.
The top of the dot pattern is visible on the "V" card, and the pattern matches perfectly to the Worldcon ID.
Not conclusive but very suggestive IHMO.

Wow, great research work! Worldcon was pretty interesting last year. Might have to journey to the next one.
That's an interesting theory about the circle out of focus devolving into the diamond shape. I'm not sure if I quite buy it, but it's definitely a good thought. The diamond shape to me, on that closer image you posted, just looks a little too angular. The right side appears parallel to side of the <8> symbol.
Does anyone have high-def screen grabs of those wallet shots? It could very well be that both the circle and the diamonds are screen accurate - they just appeared on different badges.
This looks like a new Weaver knob vs. slotted screw mystery! _________________ Bill Hunt, Editor

Hmm. Consider this:
1. Karl's original I.D. photo
2. Cropped out the circular pattern
3. Rotated 15 degrees (to match the angle of the screencap I.D.)
4. Resized to 20 pixels (to match distance)
5. Reduced focus
6. Decreased brightness (to match light levels)
7. Copied & Pasted into the screencap
8. Original screencap
I didn't get the light levels quite dark enough in #7, but the similarity is SO close, that IMO, it's the most plausible/probable explanation.

Wow, Nexus, that was a great demo!
I hadn't had any doubts previously about the section being discussed, but that's a nice bit of photoshop work. _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |
