Well the Spinner radio was working for ATC, so cells should work too.
But yeah I get where going, you could even say they were just plain banned. We don't really know how government works in that world, other then commerce of all kinds is going on, but how restrictive of other freedoms are they? communication, weapons, etc.

If there was upper atmosphere pollution and radiation (especially the kind of particulate material they say may be needed to revert global warming), it could jam satellite transmissions, but not radio transmissions which could be adjusted to not interfere with atmospheric radiation. Also the idea of a WW3 that might have had corporate backing may have led to the destruction of those satellites to prevent them being used as part of the war, or even as a way of social control to prevent things like Arab spring, OWS and other coordinated public resistance. Also the Vid Phon is a nice way to get cameras inside everybody's house and maybe be used by those in power, even when off, as a tool for surveillance.

There is a rumour you’ll be making a Blade Runner sequel.
It’s not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage

This is excellent! I was so sure until now that it was just a rumor or Ridley getting worked up.

Officially there is no script as of yet, and Ridley is working on other things. I guess they see a ton of scripts all the time for BR2 and Alcon is weeding through some of them, but from what I hear only big name writers are even being looked at. There is no script so there is no title. It is fun to come up with our ideas though, but from what I know about these writers, if they see something good online and it is close to what they are doing, they will run the other way from it to avoid a lawsuit, and or at least sound original. Also they will want the movie to seem fresh and exciting before the premier, and it can't be if too much is shown beforehand. So any ideas that seem to be leaked online will most likely be wrong.

And then there is this. Maybe cell phones get outlawed...

Yes, Panaflex, that's why they had Vid-Phones: land-lines are safer than those pesky radiations coming from cell-towers/phones Wink

I have been dreaming up sequel ideas to this for so long there is almost no way for me to not be disappointed. I must try hard to turn off my expectations in order to watch it.

Does this mean Sean Young`s manager has been on the phone?. I guess if she starts showing up at events dressed like Rachael then the gig never happened.

HF involved raises many many questions indeed. A future view of an imagined future view is very interesting. Very eager to see how 30 years into the BR universe plays out
as things were on the edge socially etc in the original. Peeps who missed the CRT screens and truck switches in Prometheus may get another shot in a new BR.
All in all I don't see things progressing much on Earth.

Interestingly enough, no words on Sean Young' interest for the new BR...as for the tech on Earth, I think that the "sophisticated stuff" is for the very rich only (or Police, Military, Off-World). On this ball, well, it's pretty much the same.

Bring back those Vid-Phones anytime

You bet.

I`m sure all the good new, shiny techy stuff is for and made in the colonies while back on old EarthV1.0 were still up to our knees in CRT`s , Vid Phons
and familiar spinners.

i truly hope the team of designers CONTINUES with the established look and extrapolates from that. I recently watched Elysium and After Earth, and the realistic look of Elysium with the poor and the rich, i do believe it could be the same in the new BR movie
