|
|
So after an long week of waiting for the EMS shipment to finally arrive, I got my Blaster. Christmas in September me thinks... First impression as I opened the box was how it looked so perfect and like an actual gun you could shoot. The weight and heft of the thing is very impressive. Solid and well made. Sort of...... First off, the lights have to have the little paper slip taken out of the battery compartment so the contacts touch the battery. No big deal. Except for the two set screws and round threaded nuts that hold the battery compartment on were something of a bitch to remove. Ok, fine, contacts are made turn on the lights. Great! Ok, not great. The bottom led doesn't work. What? Ok I can deal with this. Just fix whatever is loose. How about opening the cylinder? Put the bullets in and see what they fit like. Open the cylinder. Simple. Open the cylinder. Uh, what? Open the furslugener cylinder! It doesn't want to open. Yes, I am pushing the release by the way. And breaking several commandments in the process. Finally it opens! Put the bullets in. And close the cylinder. Close the cylinder. What? Ok, now I'm getting pissed. I finally get it closed, and didn't cry in the process. Ok, maybe a little.... Then guess what? The guy/girl assembling this thing must have been the worlds biggest pussy because the screws holding much of it together are barely tight. My handle actually wobbled until I tightened the thing up. This gun is really very nice, but for $800 I was expecting much much more. The cylinder trouble is just plain crap. That stuff should be a QC check and fixed at the factory. The led is the same. I was expecting to be wowed by this thing, and was not really wowed at all. Maybe I'm just too picky, but considering this comes from Japan a place where sweating the details is obsessive, this is pretty lame. On with the pictures!

To me the fun part is how both companies have gone with a flat black and gloss black finishes…
The prop was NOT black; it was old dirty stainless STEEL.

Looking at this model I see many Tomenosuke Pro details/tells, like the side rod mounting and the new matte black finish.
After all if you’re going to do your own run would you rather have your own take of the finish??
I think this was a special sub order run made out of the same tooling.
It looks TOO much like the new retail version of the Tomenosuke Pro. Just add the cap firing.
My 2 cents worth. _________________ I never have enough time to do all I want to do! |

Really hate problems with brand new stuff. The led is fixed, but the cylinder is the hard part. The spring that pushes it against the rear of the frame is to stiff causing it to engage/disengage very hard. Getting the cylinder off the pin it's mounted on looks to be interesting. I'm all about the details, so this stuff really aggravates me, but the gun itself is really nice. If it weren't for these problems I'd be drooling all over it. |

Looks great! Lots of nice sharp details an love how the quality of the paint shines on side covers.
I also don't get the flat black finish on the receiver on these recent releases. It's so patently inaccurate.
Is the bolt cocking handle metal?

My guess is they went all black because in the movie it was so dark most of the time it looked black. I thought I read somewhere how everyone was surprised to see the worldcon gun was silver and not black? I prefer the black myself. Or the other innaccurate all silver version in the other post I made. |

Even within the film you can see there is a marked difference between the painted black parts and the real metal parts of the Steyr receiver and Bulldog parts.

I agree Worldcon discovery was after 25 years of neglect. It was definitely black or to be more accurate blued but still shiny:
Real prop ready for filming
SO is that cocking lever and or bolt metal or are those parts plastic?
Thanks |

Wrong
Note the lighter main gun parts...compare them to the painted black parts...
Note how dark the grips are as well due to the dark picture.
If you lighten it up some you see how much brighter the gun parts are... _________________ I never have enough time to do all I want to do!

Wrong how. The receiver still has most of it's factory blue in that pic. Maybe not 100% but also definitely not raw steel. |

The lighting was so damn dark in the film I think just about any of the finishes we stress about would all of have looked about the same on screen. LOL |

One other thing about the Takagi is it came with a short length of white wire. Maybe they put that in there to wire up the green LEDs? |

And the Butt plate is also blued?? Now we all know it was bight polished aluminum and it looks just the same as does the Steyr receiver...they are the same color. _________________ I never have enough time to do all I want to do! |

Yeah but why strip a gun to bare metal with the amount of practical rain in that show. It would constantly be rusting on set and every night and a nightmare to maintain. It would be orange every morning just like your brakes after you wash your car.
Also rust on a non static firing prop would be a big no-no.
Just from screen stills and basic cover your ass logic they would not have delivered a bare carbon steel gun as the hero's main prop on a long wet shoot like this. |

That might work IF it has a hollow rod and IF you can remove the LEDs and if you can wire them up and IF there is a hole on the side near the front of the cover, to pull the wires out...

Another pic from other side. Clearly aluminum is much brighter

The same reason they redid the Classic Phaser, to show some detail, other wise it is noting but a big black blob, and as the prop does NOT reflect light I bet it was given a light coat of dull clear or some polish that protected it and stopped reflections which wore off and why it rusted latter. _________________ I never have enough time to do all I want to do! |

Still the grips are dark, lighter that the other side but dark and IF the light was low it lighted the butt plate better than the receiver. _________________ I never have enough time to do all I want to do! |

Blaster was still pretty shiny on set in every scene.
Why dull just the receiver and not the mag housing or side cylinder covers? |
