Greetings all,
I purchased a second-hand Sidkit all metal blaster from eBay from a gentleman in Italy, so far so good. I’m in the middle of putting it together. It’s my first build and a massive learning curve. One of them is to make sure you have all the parts before starting the build. I have already discovered to my annoyance five bolts missing from the kit.
My understanding Sidkit produced several variants on the theme. My kit is mostly comprised from metal (pewter) except for the ammo box (plastic) and a resin/plastic barrel. From what I’ve gathered from forums and the web, the metal version is just that, apart from the amber grips. Mine appears to be some kind of a hybrid? Any Sidkit aficionados out there who can shine a light on this conundrum would be much appreciated.

There was a WorldCon offering with Plastic ammo housing. But AFAIK the barrel was always metal.

That is a legit seller. Have bought stuff from him before. At some point they may have run out of barrels and swapped in a resin one.

That's reassuring news. Would have preferred the original metal barrel, the resin one doesn't come with the three pre-drilled holes.. My next course of action is to get a steel one made unless there's someone out there with a spare barrel for a Sidkit Worldcon for sale?

Andy, many thanks for the links. I'm stilling having problems figuring out what goes were. My kit appears to be an amalgamation of two kits with the added bonus of missing screws, bolts and springs! Arrrrrrrrrrrh!

Andy,
some pictures of the cylinder mechanism I'm having trouble with. The instructions clearly say to glue this part and test to see if the spring works. Studying the spring in the assembly photos (picture 2) my spring appears to be too long or am I missing this spring?
I hope this makes sense.

Hi Darkview
Sorry for the delay in responding to your email.
Most of the problems I encountered with the build were partly down to the vague instructions. The major issue was with the mechanism which unfortunately is not made to the same specifications of a real Charter Arms Bulldog. The Sidkit mechanism is far too flimsy and the fit is very poor. The only way to address this problem would be to fabricate a new ejector rod mechanism and spring assembly.
This issue has proven to be a major hurdle in my build. Not sure what to do next. For now my Blaster is sitting in a shoe box in my office. Not sure whether to let it go and let someone with more time and skill put it together Sad

No probs Darth...lm putting up a thread on it and the plus & pitfalls...lm an experienced model builder and for the money l expected more.., it's looking brilliant (after my many improvements) but the springs are so poor (my pen has far stronger for frack sake) but even then l doubt the click hammer trigger will work... But Kind of expected a pirate element to it...

Hi Darkview
Looking forward to your thread. I'm curious to learn what modifications you've made to improve your Sidkit.
