That's great that it is still a possibility.
If the time does come, you can sign me up for a pair; but you don't owe us anything - you're obviously a very hardworking and busy guy.
Oh and where can I see the films you've worked on? |

Thank you guys.
It would be simple to mould a set of the original Tomenosuke piss yellow grips and cast new ones. It has been suggested by someone that this is done....
Personally, I refuse to recast someone else's work.
If I were to do it, I would have to sculpt a new set of grip models from scratch in order to sleep at night
Dave Goldberg was kind enough to machine a couple checkered panels for me so I would be able to use clean, accurate checkering for the new models.
I do want to do this, really. But I need to push my film making career more at the moment.
If I get the feature to shooting this Autumn, there may be a window after the edit.
I don't want to build hopes.....

A certain party, who I shall not name, has been in touch to say he's going to offer cast amber grips for the Tomenosuke.
I have no issue with this, I have after all failed to get it together myself.
The community wants them and I can't provide them at the present time.
My issue is that this party is planning to mould the Tomenosuke grips and recast them.
This I do have an issue with.
Recasting is theft.
If you didn't make the original model from scratch, then you are stealing someone else's work.
It in not understandable, it is not excusable, it is not a 'gray area', it's black and white. Theft.
You will, of course, make up your own minds.

The anonymous party seems to have changed his mind.
OK. So to recap; I am interested in doing these and I will if I can.
I'll post here as/when things change.

I agree about recasting, however, I am also confused. There is only one blaster. Does this make all those who made copies after the fact, thieves? |

YES!
Make ANYTHING and put a label on it as a Blade Runner, Star Trek ETC. and you're doing copyright infringement.
No if ands or buts and no changing it by 10%, 20% ETC. or what, if it looks like a duck it is a duck.
If you call it a Duck it is a Duck.
Simple we all are either makers or buyers are copyright infringes. _________________ I never have enough time to do all I want to do! |

Oh, Hi Rich!
What a surprise!
Before this gets out of hand.
I have no objection to anyone making anything.
Mu sole objection here would be if the person offering the grips is recasting someone else's work. By this I mean taking Tomeosuke's grip, or Rich's grip or anyone else's grip, pouring rubber over it and selling cast copies.
This thread is doomed to be mired in semantic interpretations about what is and is not OK to recast.
I'm not speaking for anyone else. My position is simply this:
If you're going to offer cast new amber grips for the Tomenusoke, then make new models of the grips, mould them and sell castings to your heart's content.

On top of all that, another reason to make new patterns for the Tomenosuke, from scratch, is to try to get them a bit more accurate. It's always bothered me that the tomensuke patterns were made by cutting out a piece of checkered sheet and them building up the shape around that. That's why the checkering doesn't "fade out" as it should, it just sort of dies into a mass along the edges. _________________ Dave

On a different note; if anybody does make newly sculpted grips, I'm most likely in... depending on accuracy _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

During the time of year when I am in the UK, we are obviously pretty close. My offer to assist you in anyway that I can still stands...... |
