tinylight is a master sculptor, no doubt about it. You only need to observe how he sculpts the flow and detail on the clothing, the hands, and the natural pose of Deckard. |

spinner44 - Thanks for the encouraging words, the 1/4 Indy is a magnificent piece.
hirohawa - Not having finished the sculpt yet the thought of turning the figure into a kit is a little daunting. It would take quite an investment in time and materials but if there was some solid interest I could do it.
Ever onwards. I decided to refine more of the features once the eyes and mouth had started to come together. Working my way around the face smoothing out the tool marks and building up the volumes of the features, still carefully measuring and referencing stills and photos. I did however manage to damage the right ear as I went though, thankfully a minor repair.
One of the greatest challenges to this part of the project was not to 'oversculpt' the face. As I had said before, the likeness could change dramatically in a matter of strokes and I had to exercise some restraint. After adding the hair I decided it was time to finish the head sculpt, I know that I could have gone on tinkering with it for days only to loose some of the elements I was fairly pleased with and this was probably as close as I was going to get before going too far. Finally, I brushed out the last few tool marks and added some subtle texture to the skin and stubble areas then reshaped the neck a little to fit within the shirt collar.
To save any further damage to the head I made a quick resin cast and set it into the body of the figure. In between sculpting sessions for the head I started to construct the collar for the trench coat. I was surprised at what a huge difference the coat collar made to the overall outline of the figure.
Phew! It has been quite an intense week or so working on the head, I think I need to lie down in a darkened room for a while… _________________ I make friends. They're toys. My friends are toys. I make them. It's a hobby. |

This only keeps getting better and better! The likeness is superb (I was expecting that seeing your skilled talent). This is the definitive Deckard sculpt, no doubt.
I guess you'll have every picture for the net, but if you need any picture from a specific detail as the gun, holster, whatever, please ask, I'll be happy to share what I have.
I will keep wishing for a kit to happen |

Wow!! I'm sure you need a well deserved rest in...a rubber room
I kid of course; that sculpt is fantastic and the addition of the collar sure adds a "je ne sais quoi" to the whole figure.
Pro-Job for sure! |

Thanks guys for the encouragement.
Somewhat recovered, I was eager to do something about the unsightly end to the right arm and get on with sculpting the hand. However as this hand would be holding the blaster obviously I would need to address that first! The blaster has had me quaking almost as much as the likeness, having collected together as much reference as I could I realised that there are so many variations each subtly different from the other. Interpreting the various details at small scale and getting the initial size of the piece correct would be an added challenge. Luckily back in the day I bought an original Rick Ross/Doppelganger PKD, sadly in need of a lot of attention (restoration!) I was able to take the vital measurements needed to scale down the overall shape and form of the blaster. I could then sift through all of my collected images and begin to build-in all of the details. The majority of the piece is constructed from plastic card with some areas in epoxy putty and hopefully, while not absolutely accurate, I have managed to convey the blaster at a small scale appropriate for my figure.

Absolutely Incredible work. I am not sure if you are intentionally copying Rick Ross's PKD-1 version of the blaster on purpose. I know he would be cool with the homage as well, but if not don't forget we have the best reference available of the real hero prop on this site starting with here. Personally I like Rick's version better than the hero as well.

tinylight,
I f you need any extra reference on the blaster, I have hundreds of pics of the hero. Original and restored, whole and dismantled. Just let me know, I'll be happy to provide you with anything I have. |

Many thanks for the input guys.
I think the thing I found the most challenging about constructing the blaster was how to achieve the correct size for the piece. I had gathered many, many images including the incredible 'Worldcon' shots and also as many stills as I could of Deckard holding the blaster too. (I just have to say the level of research and commitment by forum members here is truly humbling, a fantastic resource indeed). However, without having an actual physical object to hold the task of scaling the piece would be down to guesswork. My intention was not to recreate a tiny PKD-1, although I do like this version too, but just to take the very basic measurements from my PKD-1, length, height and width to give me some sense of the dimensions relative to the rest of the figure. With these measurements as an 'outline' I could then use the great reference of the hero blaster to add all of the important details. _________________ I make friends. They're toys. Fantastic Deckard! I haven't visited this site in a while and am really floored by your stellar work. You caught a great mood with that portrait, one absent from Ford's other more confident roles. Bravo!! |

With the blaster completed to a point I was happy with I made a mould and took a resin cast, I could then work back into the resin cast to sharpen up some areas and add a couple of final details.
Once the blaster was ready I then sculpted the right hand around the resin cast which was a bit more challenging than I expected, the angle of the wrist proving a little tricky.
I then built up the cuff of the shirt and jacket into the end of the coat sleeve and attached the right hand and blaster, I also finished the coat collar. At this point I have given the figure a coat of red oxide primer, with the figure sculpted from various putties and clays this helps to homogenise the surface and allows me to see all the imperfections in the sculpting. Now begins the task of sanding and filling these wayward toolmarks and imperfections and addressing any final details…
