I never put one of these together and am finally doing the nitpicky research.

The pure white ones are kinda tough to find but these heart versions seem much more common-
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-Of-2-Tupperware-RARE-Heart-Mugs-1312-10-Stackable-Vintage-Valentines-Day-/301852375860?hash=item4647cdbb34:g:v7UAAOSw-zxWnuSu

I was wondering if anybody has tried to use these and if the heart design is "stamped" onto the plastic in a way that messes up the surface at all?

Also, what is the best solution for the blue wing graphic. I'd love to make something that would be durable enough to actually use but that might be a pipe dream.

Also are we 100% sure it was the pure white variation that was sued? There is an off white model and light grey version that look pretty good too.

The heart design seems to be silk screened onto the mug. On one of them, the design appears to be smudged or wearing off, so one could assume it is removable without too much effort?

I bought a different version of the same base mug. The art on mine was stamped into the surface and I suspect the heart design is as well. additionally, the upper surface of the mug had a fine 'pebbled' texture, as was apparently in vogue for Tupperware for a while.

I'd hold out for a blank white one. Check large batch auctions and PM the seller to see if they would break out just the one(s) you want. I scored a couple that way. It also helps to get a seller looking for them. If they know you'll buy white ones they might keep an eye out when they're scouring yard sales.

The original decoration was printed using a solvent based ink which is very durable for obvious reasons. It may come off with the some harsh, dangerous solvent that we all love and use for our hobby. The solvent is unlikely to melt the plastic as LDPE is pretty inert.
The original wings were silkscreened onto self adhesive clear vinyl.
To reproduce them you could print them yourself on decal paper or have a copy house or signmaker print them for you on white or clear self adhesive vinyl.
Anything other than a proper factory printed image will not be durable for everyday use.
I've got a vector illustration of the wings if you need one.

I wonder if a vinyl cut stencil and some careful airbrushing would result in a factory made appearance. It'd nice to not have to go with a sticker.

Might get a little underspray due to the bumpy texture though.

Hmmm...

My mom had a set of these when I was a kid. She had yellow and brown ones (IIRC).

My friend from this forum sent to me a sheet of decals. They have held up (albeit hand-cleaning one of my white tupperware mugs) pretty well for 7 years......

Br26354, would you be willing to share the dimensions of your mug decal?

Yes, of course...Let me measure it precisely with an Unused WY decal, and I'll PM or whatever you wish, that information back for you.

Either would be great - Thank you. That said, a post here might be helpful for folks looking to find/order/create their own.

I'd love to know the size too. I've created a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet in Adobe Illustrator with widths of the wings from 1 inch to 4.25 inches. Trying to determine the exact size from stills of the film has been hard. If I knew the size, I could replace a few in my layout so that I could print and apply it to my Tupperware mug.

Smagda, I never ended up with the dimensions of the decal, so I printed off what you posted, cut out a couple, and taped them onto one of my mugs to check out the possibilities.

I think the third row down is closest (referencing BR26354's photos). It's hard to tell at the resolution of your sample page, but it appears to be a little too small. Wings from the fourth line, though, appear to be clearly on the large side.

The image I attached was set at 25% to give an idea of how I set up the page. Here is a PDF that if you print at 100% will give the correct sizes. If you take a look you'll see that the small size is set at 1 inch width and the biggest is set as 4.25 inches width. This gives a wide range of possible sizes. Maybe one of these is the correct size.

Thanks for these! I've got a few cups to try them out on.

I have a set of the mugs I might need to part with. They are getting way too dusty on my shelf.

With rickhoward's help I have updated the Weylan-Yutani wing sticker sheet. I have added a section with the wing graphic set at a width of 41.2mm. If you print it out at 100% and place it on a Tupperware mug it should match the version in the movie.
