Hello everyone

I stumbled across this site and thread after a couple of Google searches.

I have just finished clearing out my parents' house in the UK and stumbled across one of these bird chess sets in the roof where it must have been for at least 30 years. I seem to remember my Dad buying the set in the late 70's sometime.

The set is in its original box (not a very interesting box though!) but a couple of the birds have minor damage - end of one pawn beak and half of one of the Queen's crest.

As far as I can make out, the King has a marking on the bottom - R Fisher??

Anyone interested in this set? I can send pics.

cheers

T

Hi. I was looking / listening ... at an old music video clip...a 1983 song by Haysi Fantayzee.

To my surprise...the CHESS SET BIRDS on a lighted chess board appear
at 1:28 into the video.
Shocked

This thread peaked my interest in Sebastian's chess set. So when I saw that Rick Ross was creating his version, I recently reached out to him to see if one was still available. Yes, INDEED!

As the regulars here know, Rick is an artist. I was completely blown away by the inner box my 'basic' set was packed in. Rick did the box up as if it had been shipped to JFS from the Red Dragon Kipple Company. Each piece was carefully wrapped in foam and safely packed in individual boxes. Rick went to town with the details. And after trying to take in all the details just from the packaging, I opened up the first piece and gasped. The detail he perfectly captured. Stunning. Typical of Rick's kits, there really isn't any need for clean-up. In fact, he had dusted the black pieces with primer already.

If anyone is on the fence about getting a chess set from Blade Runny, I HIGHLY recommend reaching out to Rick. He is the nicest, most talented member. There are a number of them here, he is in good company. But the chess set moved him to the top in my book.

I'd include photos but my camera is no more. Check out his site and just know they look even better in person.

Thanks, Rick!!!

Ted.

I appreciate it has been some years, now, HopFrog, and don’t wish to raise a painful subject, if the worst has happened, but did you ever obtain a wren chess piece? I ask because I own one, cast from the original moulds, now re-mastered. I’d be happy to share it with you, for the purposes of your amazing task.

Please let me know if this will help. If the project was completed, just ignore me! Wink
