With regard to “replicant detection unit”, what are your thoughts on actually using the phrase “Blade Runner” as Deckard himself does when the cops swoop down to question why he parked?
Looks fantastic by the way. |

Well, while "Blade Runner" is the film's title, they were referred to as Rep Detects and officially "Replicant Detection" would be the official designation of that Sector 8 unit.
At the White Dragon Gaff refers to Deckard as a "Blade Runner", but addressing him rather crudely as well - in Cityspeak.
Cityspeak was defined as a "mish-mash" - a slang and Gaff did not have a great deal of respect for Deckard early-on (He was more or less an irritant, someone Gaff was stuck with as a pseudo partner).
Generally, I think "Blade Runner "was meant rather derogatorily, at least in 2019 - even though Deckard used it himself.
Even in the book, he felt his occupation was lacking - making no real contribution. Just killing robots. Even Iran, his wife, held him somewhat in contempt for his work.
This is amplified with K, in "2049", who's treated by his human co-workers as the worst kind of cop, and a "skinjob" on top of that, hunting his own kind.
Thanks! - R13 _________________ Gosh, you've really got some nice toys here . . . |

Replicant 13 -
That looks amazing! Love all the details.
I agree with losing Bryant's name though.
So excited by this. |

Thanks for the comments guys.
We didn't think we'd get away clean with the first pass
I think you'll agree with me that R13 has done a customarily great job on this piece.
Let's see if we can get through the next phase without causing him too much additional work...
The VIN Plate will be laser etched from a plaque making material which looks like brushed aluminum. The laser etches away the 'metal' surface exposing matt black underneath. The plate has been designed to show as few and as minimal areas of black as possible, so the silver is predominant. This will pick up with the Steyr badge, and silver corners of the box, and should tie it all together nicely.
Cratercritter,
Working from the dimensions of the new box we're using, slightly smaller than the first one, the dimensions of the plate are 3" by 2" Landscape. I intend the plate to mount on the left side panel of the box, as viewed from the front, toward the front half of the box.

None of the text will be too small. We're laser etching, the detail can be very fine. Also, the contrast between the matt black of the etch and the brushed silver of the surface is very good.
I have a trademark for one of my clients etched into their leatherwork. The copright 'C' is less than 0.5mm across and perfectly legible. |

Got the new sample box today.
It measures 13" by 9.5" by 4" precisely.
Add a little for the projection of the corner protectors.
Very nice size. |

"LAPD" Should stay as you had it, IMO, and NOT have it "LA PD" |

A landscape size of 3 X 2 could mean that the copyright graphics and writing under the STEYR logo could be very small (?).
...see how it goes I guess with 3 x 2.
Anyway... here are some more remarks.
|
Shouldn't it be an encircled "R" not a "C" next to Shimado Domingo name?
Like so:

nice job on the plate. I personally like it
about the copyright, if it was me, I would just remove it completely. I don't know why, it reminds me of the master replicas or stuff like that, putting a copyright is just weird to me. |

Hi... Please clarfiy:
Replicant 13 has the Plaque originally as: LA P D with the L and the A interlinked, and a gap between A and P and D.
Cratercritter suggestion is: L A P D (i.e. separate the L and A so all the letters in L A P D are equally spaced.
Nexus7 suggestion is: ?? |
Sorry for the confusion! NOT interlinked, i.e. equal spacing. I was confused as to which was the original. |

All -
Some point are valid, others are subjective. I will look these over later, but like we said earlier - Try to please everyone . . . ?
I intentionally merged the L A as a design point since there are certain letter combinations that always have spacing issues. I think it's quite clear (and repeated above anyway). We all know it's Los Angeles PD, right?
Yes, Bryant was the issuing officer and importantly, Deckard's superior, but why crowd the plaque with more text when his name follows the issued date? Important and obvious, me thinks.
As to the dot placement, that's the way that font is set up.
© or ®? I will check, but generally ® refers to a registered mark - this is just type and refers to the piece produced. A simple switch if incorrect.
Registartion and copyright marks (and the date) precede the name in the majority of cases, if not all.
One zigs, one zags.- R13 _________________ Gosh, you've really got some nice toys here . . . |
