Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad you guys like the proto/sample.
I'm away for a few days, but the rest of the items I need for the run are ordered and should be here soon.
When I get back work will begin on the long job of staining and finishing the boxes.
More news as it happens.
If you like this design, you're going to love the MK2 version

Looking forward to it. I didn't grab one of these because I figured I already had a box but man, this is magnificent so I will be very tempted if you ever end up doing the 2nd version.
Congratulations.! _________________

The 2nd version will be prototyped as soon as I've delivered all of these.
I've got a hell of a workload at the moment.

Small update.
Got the foam lining pieces, trimmed them to exact size and got the leatherette on them all.
Looks nice.
Letting the glue dry then I'll take them down to a 60 ton Beam Press and cut out the blaster apertures with the press die I had made.
I've started the long job of sanding and staining all the boxes. This will go on over Xmas.
The VIN plates are all being laser etched and I should get them today or Monday. |

Thanks.
There seems to be enough interest for a MK2 version. Four or five people so far have inquired so far.
I'll get these done and shipped and we can start on the MK2 prototype in the New Year. |

Ok, I think we have enough inteested parties to start a MK2 interest thread.
I'll do it now.
Can everyone who would like to get involved, please say so over there?
Many thanks,

What are some preferences for plate placement?
For me, the front left is a safe bet. You have to view the front to open the case. Text is read from left to right. And the text won't be blocked if you are using your right hand to open the strap. |

See COMMENT about the VIN plate on page 8 of this Thread.
...."....I just got a request from a member on the run who has asked for their VIN plate not to be stuck on their box, but left loose, so they can place it themselves.
So, I've decided this is how they will all be delivered. The industrial double sided will be attached to the back of the plate, but the safety film left on.
That way you can stick it where you like, and there will hopefully be no further complaints. ..." |

Thank you. I already read every post in this topic before asking.
I am merely asking where people are going to place their plates, and why.
And I do not mean to imply any personal preference has to be definitive, aside from the builder's artistic inclination. |

You can put it on the inside in the space to the bottom right of the insert piece if you like.
Or, you can cut out a hole for an ammunition box in the same spot, and stick the VIN plate to the top of the lid....

Quick update,
The wooden boxes are all being sanded, stained and lacquered. It's a long process, but we're making good headway.
Another week of this or more, I would estimate.
I have to get all the leatherette faced foam inserts down to the London leather shop where there's a 60 ton beam press. This will stamp out the cut-outs for the blasters.
Then the leatherwork and stitiching, corner protectors, snaps, badges, etc.
