thanks for the intel,
did they seriously do commercial objects out of ebony at the time or is just an error from the auctioneer?
I mean, ebony is exotic, rare, expensive, hard to work with, brittle... doesn't really make sense to use that wood for anything else than sculptures or musical instrument making.
if the statement was correct, I'm even more impressed at what companies did back at the time. Shocked

I suspect it's actually probably an ebonised lightweight hardwood rather than ebony.

Ebony wasn't endangered or illegal back then, so it's quite possible it was used in this plate holder.

In other news, further confirmation that I was wrong, and the correct format is 13x18cm: using the KoohINoor pencil, I verified that the width of the inner fame matches the 14.5 cm written on the Mini Post It Note on the Mentor plate holder photo Buzby posted. I believe that the 13x18 format is actually a further reduced inner border behind the dark slide. This would make 14.5x21 cm the dimensions the seller measured of the inside frame, not the outer frame. 18 mm strikes me as the correct thickness of the plate holder.

Feedback welcome!

It’s Black history Month, so let’s all ebonize! No further explanations needed. Wink

Work in progress... Still need to add the inlaid number 3 and slap the Kanji onto the cross bar (which needs to be a bit narrower).

Thanks, Joberg! Smile

I'm holding off on sending parts to 3D printing and CNC until I get some good photos and confirmation on dimensions, features, and proportions from owners of smaller Mentor plate holders. The correct 13x18 format has elluded all of us so far... These are the areas I need photos and measurements of:

If you're a member of the Facebook group....you need to get Stephen Gregory on the case. He's a genius at this sort of thing.

I second that. I asked him for help with sizing something. He said that he'd be glad to help but that he was working on something else and he'd get on it right after that. I think he got back to me with the measurements about 120 seconds later.

I'm not sure it has been discussed here, but the "second" lunchbox is a "Zuperzozial" , the one seen at the comic con looks likes the "1400335 Coconut white" but in the movie it seems to be the "1400337 Stone grey".

Thanks, man!

I’ve already had the pleasure of discussing Stephen’s baseline tester in the FB group - I helped him correct the length of the linear track in his model and pointed out that the track is the only found item in the prop that could serve as a scaling factor. He’s now working on version 3 based on my feedback. I’ll definitely seek his help with the plate holder, although having access to or photos of the actual item is my ultimate goal.

THink i may have found a line to go on guys - was looking up hungarian crystal thinking that they might have just popped into a small shop while filming. I know these are blue at the top, but might be the style we need to follow??

Thoughts?

Interesting but these are further away than the closest glass we have found. (Arcadas Old Fashioned) They taper quite significantly and have a very small base.

With the lack of success we've had, I do wonder whether the K glass and particularly the Joshi glass was picked up in Hungary. Certainly the Kortepalinka O7 bottle and probably Abnormal Vodka was from there.

Yeah, I've gone down the Hungarian crystal route before with not much luck. It tends to be much more ornate or much of it is colored.

These are very rounded but the flutes on it look nice.

In the months that I've been searching for it I will say one thing... For every 50 glasses that I've found that weren't in 2049 I find one that SHOULD have been. Smile

Yeah the taper is narrower white43, but the majority that I have seen in that tumbler style, the cut halfway up is more open like the joshi glass. So frustrating that one part is right but the others (colour, cut) are miles off!

Also I totally agree with Nexus - so many good looking glass/crystal ware out there that would totally fit and be a touch easier to find Razz

Hey guys,

Just became a member of a glass forum, to hopefully get some clarification on the k and josh glasses. Only popped up a post 30 mins ago and got this back.

Hi and welcome.
I can't really tell too much from your images. They appear to be mould blown and have machine heat-finshed rims, so they're probably from some mass production range.

So crystal looks like it might not be the way forward.

I have joined glassmessages.com

Here are the threads pertaining to Lt Joshi's glass and K's. I have not claimed credit for any of your hard work trying to identify these so far, only that the fact that there have been a lot of us looking for them but to no avail (even my meagre attempts at finding items that aren't right Razz ).

I figured if there is a massive forum of people who specialise in glass, they might have some pointers to get us closer to the actual pieces.

Cheers

Alan
