I finally found a complete Rick Ross "Sebastian's chess set" on Ebay.
It had to come all the way from Australia to France. The seller had kept it in pristine condition.
Here are some photos :

The chess board is a rosewood/mother of pearl Helena Wood Art (Turkish company) product.

I must say I'm rather please by this addition to my BR collection.

What an amazing piece of work, Rick ! Very Happy

Thanks guys ! Smile

Hi Mr. Critter !

Yes, it wasn't cheap, and I had to add 20% import taxes on that... Shocked
But I wanted one set for a long time, and unfortunately Rick said (I contacted him some time ago and he told us so on this board) he wasn't able to tell when he could resume the production (health issues, and also "old" molds). And here it was... "mint in box".

I was lucky with the chess board, because originally it was supposed to be walnut (darker) & mother of pearl, not rosewood. But there was apparently a slight error in stock management, and finally I decided to keep this one.

I saw this post about Blade Runner's interest in people's mind today on this page : http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=5457&start=20 last month.
Well, don't despair, I think there is still much Blade Runner Love !

Hey, gorgeous chess set and board.
just wanted to chime in for the board woods. It doesn't look like rosewood to me. Walnut is definitelly lighter than rosewood, not the other way around. This actually look like some kind of mahogany considering the grain of the wood (acajoux). Also I hope the price did not clearly reflect mother of pearl because this is perloid Confused

It looks very nice in any case and it does look very cool with the chess set!

No worries, the board was ~ 80 EUR.
I'm absolutely no wood expert. I think there are several walnut essences. And "rosewood" is actually one of any Dalbergia wood. (red to almost black I think ?)
It could be anything else, of course. Frankly, I don't care. Looks nice = job done.

yeah it does look nice!
you are right that there are a lot of rosewodd species. It could actually be some kind of really light madagascar rosewood but the grain makes me think about mahogany more. Also all the rosewoods are now forbidden to export which make it a bit weird that a shop would sell rosewood items.
cheers

Congratulations for this acquisition !
