Actually they do have the two lower rear engines included on this scene, could that be an engine that fell off that is sitting on its nozzle end to the left of the model?

Again, thank you for this historical photo of this smaller size model!

....Gents the nostromo still has its ventral thrusters intact, they can be clearly seen in this image, protruding just before the first step, they can be made out clearly on the dvd, looks like they fell off this model sometime in the past? on the picture of the model you can just make out the faint outline on the front were the thrusters would have sat and what looks like a bit of glue residue to, and you can just make out patches of white on the rear corners, inboard of the nacelles on the model, where the auxillary engine pods have been attached.

kane2122, I doubt the photo you're refering to shows the model that is featured on the screenshot of the Nostromo leaving the refinery, it looks too tiny (look at the wiggets on its belly, they give an idea of its scale)

I rather think this model could have been the one attached to the huge refinery model...

Look at this pic from Phil Rae's archives, this Nostromo model looks identical to the one featured in SavageCreature's photo...

It's a lot of fun to read all the discussion about these details. (you guys have too much time on your hands ) I was working as an illustrator when these photos were taken and had been contracted to draw complete blueprints of the ship for reconstruction purposes. As all of you know better than I, I found many discrepancies between the various versions of the model. None of them appeared to use the same scale (the ship changed proportions with the various sized models) and some features were different from version to version. For the final blueprints I basically just picked the features I liked and combined them into one ship.

I'm very impressed with the encyclopedic knowledge many of you seem to have on the subject.

Before any of you ask for copies, unfortunately the plans and all my original Aliens logo work (and a great many other pieces of movie related art) all went into storage (so they wouldn't get damaged being knocked about the house) and were destroyed when the storage facility flooded. Because I couldn't accept that they had been destroyed I kept some of the damaged work sealed in plastic hoping I could save them, but when they grew forests of mold (to which I am highly alergic) my wife finally made me get rid of them.

Oh, and since I'm sure my random ramblings don't really contribute much to the point of this thread I'll try to make up for it with the top view of aforementioned model.

Actually it is nice to know some else had a go at drawing this thing up. I couldn't agree more on the discrepancies....for this reason alone it was a time consuming project. Thanks so much for posting these pics.

JTP, has anyone completed a buildup of the big two-footer kit, yet? I was down my local model shop the other day, and they had on display one of the smaller 5" kits built up, looked good.

I don't know why it's there, but I do believe that's a piece from inside the Airfix space shuttle. We know there must have been stacks of that kit lying around, so it's only natural they should find a use for some of the smaller bits!

Well guys I think I am gonna cry.. This very cool model has been sold. It is the original one I started on this thread, I had built it for myself actually to be displayed on a mirror with all the super-detailing on the bottom.. But a fellow up in Canada wants it, and I am going to knock it out in 30 days.. to those people who have bought my kits, there will be plenty of reference pics here for you to finish the ship.

I will start the Brass landing gear this week, and do the rear booms for the landing floods. Actually to answer Space Jockey's question, there are 6 people working on them as I know of.. the one I really want to see is one done by an assistant of the school of aerospace studies at the university of Florida. I will be placing the shuttle hangers on and doing the blister/airlock housing as well this week. I have ordered the miniature srtring of lamps for the bottom.

I was glad to dust it off... now I have a reason to finish it between all my other projects and work I want to give a special thanks to Space Jockey for his role in this Nostromo mania we all seem to have here..

Hey cool, I was wondering what happened to that original kit.
No need for the thanks, it's nice to be involved in this hobby and you've done a tremendous job of keeping the original AEF kit alive especially with making the newer more accurate parts and restoring/redoing the original molds.
Look forward to seeing the end result.

Been dusting the old girl off.. assembling the second nacelle, and doing the hydraulics for the top engine gimbals. all the sudden I have the urge to get the Nostromo ready for it's next (and probably last) mission...

Tonight did the following:

assembled and installed the other Nacelle, and engine bell.
re-installed the shuttle garage.

Installed Grahams airlock/observation blister.
started final finishing of nacelle seams before detail is added.

assembled front tow-motor thuster array
installed to Nostromo front tow motor thruster array.

Took some shots until my camera batteries died.

stood back, cracked open some beers and stared...

Thanksas always joberg! I am going to try to finish all the conduits out on the other nacelle this weekeng, and maybe start the landing gear. I will do all brass struts instead of the resin struts that use the center pin. I need to get this thing sitting on its own...will be much safer.
