Here's another view of my 2D faceplate, compared to the original. I can't vouch for the size accuracy, but it "feels" right to me.

I'd love to see the details updated with the info from the Vidphon Report.

I think I can manage that. What's the best images we have of the face plate details?

Just check the images I posted at the begining of this thread.

Good details up and down the whole phon.

I find one of the Ironic things about BR is if they had him using a hand held camera or cell like phone it would have been too Star Trek/Dick Tracy Sci-Fi... Smile

I may have to try and contact one of our friends in Japan to see if they can get u s a copy of the vid phon report ar at least what is on the disc. Thanks again nick for posting the link to your scans and images.

Right - sorry, should have checked those pics first!

I'll take a look and make some changes. One other note - I ended up scaling my version of the phone around the vid-phon card, which is a pretty well-known size.

Ok, I'll post changes when I got 'em....

Wow! What a great project.

The shells look beat all to Hell! I think I could probably make a solid pattern for one that could be molded and rotocast in resin, with a removable top or bottom to allow access inside for installing any kind of electronics, but I don't want to step on anyone else's toes who's already planning to do one (and if anyone is, color me interested!)

I think the first most important step would to arrive at a consensus at the overall height and width of the control panel, which I think Whitefall has nailed. Are those panels still available?

Shawn, welcome aboard man. I think we each have different ideas on how to do these and you can never really have enough Vid Phons around to make your late night tequila induced booty calls.

Here is a scan from the Sketchbook for all of you to make your stickers from. It is too big to post so you will have to click the link.

Shawn-

I was thinking just the same. Id like to have a pal of mine cnc up the case in multiple parts in tooling board. I have a bunch sitting around gathering dust and then roto cast it. Lord knows I don’t need to be the one doing it but I will volunteer to do the plans. CG is my day job so id be happy to model it up and see if we can get a consensus on the design. I should be able to start in this weekend if my show at work doesn’t run long.

I just checked the new DVD and there is a Vid Phon in the alley way right outside Zhora's dressing room. The scale there does look much closer to the 30" of whitefall's face plate. I am using windows media player and for some reason can not get screen caps to work. I have tried upgrading with plug ins but it might be my video card. If any body can help with screen caps, especially off of the HD televised version we would all be greatfull.

For the caps... I have a similar problem...

You will find the described scene at 55:16 and 55:22.

I hope this helps.

Here's an update to my vid-phon faceplate (before digital dirt is added). The old one is on the left; the new one on the right.

The box on the right is yellow based on some screenshots. Opinions? (Also, you can't really make it out, but I added a field of horizontal lines to it).

Roto-cast may be the way to go. Even adding glass micro-spheres to stretch the resin volume. basically as strong but lighter and still skin detail worthy would be nice.

From what I've come to understand, the cases were supposed to be manufactured out of recycled materials. The apparent dents and damage seen on the outside isn't really damage at all, but supposed defects in the 'futuristic' casting of the booths themselves, where evidence of the recycled materials can be seen. This includes bottlecaps and other odds and ends the prop makers inserted into the original master...

If one were to go the rotocasting route, how would you make the piece durable? The flip side is that if you drop a rotocast piece, that large that it would break.

I am just exploring options here. Any help would be appreciated.
