Please pardon my abysmal ignorance, but how would a sail work in the vacuum of space? Confused

Thank you, Andy, I knew someone would have an answer for me. Although I may not fully understand it, I am satisfied just that it is so.

Pier Paolo Pasolini's MEDEA was released in 1969 and I think it influenced in a certain way John Milius' CONAN, at least on some aspects such as the costumes.

Medea costumes were all created by Piero Tosi (The Leopard, Death in Venice, The Night Porter, Ludwig, Lady of the Camelias, etc)

Take a look at the screencaps below… Never saw these kind of face armor anywhere else than in MEDEA and CONAN…

Same thing regarding these Conan armor and helmet… they look rather close to Jason's armor and Jason's King helmet in MEDEA.

There's also this black and white ceremonial coat/robe in Medea...

You'll find something rather close in CONAN... and even D U N E !

Can you guess what's coming next ?

Thank you JB !

Another similarity between MEDEA and D U N E...

A warrior (and also main character of the film) that stands and then walks ahead of his troops in the desert...

Yep, It amazes me each time I look at this short story because you can find this probe droïd, Blade Runner sets and The 5th Element cars in its pages !

Yep LA2019, in that case you're 100% right !

OK, another one related to THE LONG TOMORROW...

Moebius' flying cars inspired Ridley Scott in the early stages of development of BR, it's obvious when you look at his vision of Zhora's death... Look at the car !!! (BTW, I think that the way she dies smashing a police car could be a reference to Richard Donner's first SUPERMAN movie : In this film, Clark Kent is accidentaly hit by a car in the street. Of course, he's not hurt but the front of the car is destroyed... Here, the superman is a replicant girl and when she hits the car, she dies)
The last time I saw a flying car inspired by THE LONG TOMORROW, it was in THE 5th ELEMENT, a bad movie IMHO where the look of the city was also taken from Moebius and O'Bannon's short story... but Moebius did concept design on this one, so at least Besson paid tribute in a way to the original material !

If you look at Frank Miller's "Hard Boiled" penciled by Geoff Darrow, (who by the way takes the time to draw in so much detail as to render you speechless) you can see all of these influences in strong evidence.

Yes, of course, you're right !

Darrow and Moebius are close friends, they even drew together an amazing portfolio for the french market in the mid 80's, LA CITE FEU (it was later released in the US under the title CITY OF FIRE)

Darrow always publicly acknowledged that Moebius was one of his main influences. (and he also designed the world of THE MATRIX trilogy)

More costume comparison shots between MEDEA and DUNE...

Not exactly the same thing, but the spirit of both designs is very close !
(I also think that Jodorowsky's vision of D U N E was heavily influenced by Pasaolini's MEDEA... Take a look at Moebius' costume design for this project, and also at Jodorowsky's film EL TOPO to be convinced)

Fred

You're right JB !
(The Jedis also had Supertramp haircuts, but that's another story !)

Back to MEDEA for a last post...

It looks like the scene where Maria Callas is imploring her gods in the desert served as main inspiration for Madonna's FROZEN video by the great Chris Cunningham : A woman in a black dress with heavy baroque jewelry around her neck... (and they're both singers after all)

(was it intended as a kind of homage to Pasolini's film ?)

Shocked

Cool

Coming next : Mao Tse Tong !

Fred
