Thanks joberg!
You know I'll try my best Karl! I wish I had more metal parts to make finishing it more straight forward! I've been contemplating trying to add a bit of an amber candy coat to the grips if need be to get a richer deep colour! I'll have to start a thread when my 'Young Frankenblaster' starts to take shape! |

John,
I experimented with a lot of different ideas to deepen and enrich the grip colour.
Darkening, Adjusting the amount of transmitted light through the grips, seemed to be the best way.
I did it in very gradual layers, building up transparent black ink on the back of the grip.
The colour I wanted was there in the grip, there was just too much light going through.
You'd be surprised at how little it takes to darken them down.
Have fun, mate
Karl

Great job!
The Off World is a great platform to mod from. |

Thanks very much,
Though it's probably more Sidkit than anything else. The parts of the Sidkit I didn't use:
Butt cap,
Upper receiver,
Sightrod,
Barrel.
The only Offworld part is the zinc upper receiver.
Cheers,
Karl |

Karl,
Beautiful prop there.
Would you mind sharing what type of bluing agent you used?
Thanks,
Ted. _________________ In space no one can hear you scream. But you can always text. |

Hi Ted,
It's a generic patinating fluid from John Penny here in the UK.

Karl,
I forgot to thank you for your reply to my question about the type of bluing agent you used. I appreciate the info.
I went with Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black for mine. I like the finish that I eventually got with it. Something tells me the experience of the person doing the work is at least as important as the chemicals used to do the work.
Lots of excellent builds out there. Yours is one of my favorites.

That's a really nice thing to say, thank you.
Glad you like it.
I had a lot of fun doing it, but it was a lot of hours.
I really need to find some time to build my Tomenosuke Pro kit. Every time I walk past the box it gives me a dirty look
Cheers,
Karl |
