Yep.... definitely agree that $50 was a good price point.
I sold two Dave G (Goldberg Arms) Tom-Pro barrels last year
....got snapped up very quick for $129 each (with Free Worldwide shipping).
I have no more left for sale.... only had the two.

I find that "fact" of how a for sale idem has to sell at a reasonable price BUT once it is no longer for sale can double or triple in price.

And the sad fact the original maker and selling see none of that extra value (unless he held back a few and can partake in the resale market) and the original BUYER is making the extra profit.

Yes.... very true...good point Rich. The secondary market does this to a lot of items.

I see no reason why the price shouldn't be adjusted according to Jedibug's time and effort. His current price estimate IIRC is between $75 and $100.

Hey guys, sorry I've been so quiet lately. Just been a bit swamped with work followed by a bit of under-the-weather-ness. Planning to get back in the workshop later this week to get working in earnest on getting these things done.

Also, thanks for the input Dave. I was kind of sweating whether $50 was going to be worth the time and effort, but it seems like everyone is understanding if it comes in within my original estimate which, as Buch said, was $75 - $100.

Anyway, hope to have more updates soon.

Sorry for the delay, guys. Between my two jobs I've been working close to 60 hours a week. Really hoping to get down to the workshop to get back to work on these soon. I pay $130 a month for my workshop and I've only spent a couple hours there all month!

I have found that often a person will under estimate the costs of a production run.

They then face two chooses: explain the error and ask for more OR finish the run at the given price and then swear to never do them again. (Or just never finish the run…)

Many will do the run because they do not want to admit they made a mistake. But will never do it again.

As jedibugs is not trying to make money at this I feel he has priced these are his best price counting in the current price of steel rod he is paying and how much time and trouble he is putting it.

Yesterday’s bargain is yesterday, and unless you have a Wayback machine in the DEAD past.

I could tell you horror stories of how cheap I used to be able to buy things….man do I wish I HAD a Wayback machine…

Okay, got my steel bar cut down. I'm sending them off to someone with better equipment than I for drilling the barrel bore and when they come back, I'll get to lathing.

While they're away, I'm going to build a jig for properly drilling and tapping the screw holes. The small ones that attach the receiver are a little above the center line, so a jig will be absolutely necessary to get them perfectly aligned.

I'll use the same jig to hold the barrel when cutting the tail slit.

Sorry this is taking so long, but I will get it done.

The barrels are all bored out and back in my hands, I should have the jig for properly drilling and tapping the holes done tomorrow and I am waiting on a steady follow (which should also be here tomorrow) which will assist in getting the ends done properly.

I will be doing extensive testing with the scraps I have to make sure I have everything correct and then I'll start in on the final pieces.

I should have seven available for sale within the week. They will be at the $100 price point. When the first is completely finished and test-fitted, I will post some pics and start taking payments. I will test fit each and every one before sending them out to make sure that there won't be any issues installing them.

Here are the 8 I have, bored and ready for the next phase:

The jig I made for drilling and tapping:

My test barrel, drilled and tapped:

Test assembly to check the barrel mounting holes: It works!

=====================

In other news, I did receive my steady follow today, so I will start getting the barrels lathed either tonight or tomorrow. I'll post pictures of the first one I finish. Then I'll probably move the discussion to its own thread.

Thanks Joberg. The drilling and tapping was the thing I was most worried about. Now that I have that sorted out, it's smooth sailing!
