I had been racking my brain about the bottle cap as seen in the movie. Especially with the top detail, the cap is something that I know I had seen before. I felt that I know it was something I may have scavenged from my mothers beauty product packaging, back in my kitbashing days. When digging through my stuff I found a clear cap that fit and it was from a Mousse bottle that I had for about 15 years. So just as a whim I looked at the shampoo and hair product bottles at the grocery store and found this bottle...

It was close, and depending on size might be easier to fit than the Finlandia cap without the thread insert and extra thickness. The back side is that it cost $12 and is now discontinued. I passed knowing that at least I was on a good new track.

Other things that also rung a bell was Jovan spray musk. I am off to do a vintage packaging search to see if I can find the exact bottle, but I have a feeling it may be fruitless for at least a few tries until I can pin it down more.

So if anybody feels like digging through their parents linen closets and bathroom cupboards, or anybody else that may have saved some 1970-80's packaging, it might be worth some looks.

It is the only reason I remembered it without writing it down until I got home Smile. Maybe BR is the center of the Universe (1st clue that I might need to be hospitalized someday)

I looked at over a thousand google image searches for vintage Mousse/ hairspray/Jovann packaging with out much luck. I may just have to break down and buy the $12 hairspray. If I was a little less ethical I would have just stolen the cap off of one. I am also considering chrome painting my clear one.

Looks a little tall, but it is exactly what I remembered, and period vintage.

I wonder how much these are going to start selling for now? Smile

I can just see the news report now: an unexplained rash of salon burglaries has broken out around the globe. Cameras show grown men suspiciously prowling the aisles. Is this a new cult? Drug Craze? No one knows for sure.

Considering the VERY LIMITED number of bottles spreas all across the globe I highly doubt any store will even notice the few capless bottles.

I was at a bunch of garage sales this summer and there were often boxes of vintage cologne bottles, often for free, but I wouldn't look. Rolling Eyes

BTW, it seems the newer Jovan bottles have the name stamped in the top.

Stop and consider another option, and I know it's do-able cuz I looked into it...
If someone out there were really industrious they could take a Finlandia Cap, mount it on their bottle, sculpt it up a bit so as to make it thicker, pop a mold off of it, pour up some plastic copies and have them chrome electro-plated.

The problem I ran into? Everyone I asked wants a minimum of 10,000 units ordered.

I could still do it (the molding and pouring part) but finding someone who will cheaply electro-plate them?

The only reason the labels for the BR Whiskey Bottle turned out so well and we got them fairly cheap was that we found a printer shop full of BR Fans who jumped at the chance to make them for us and cut us a great deal...if we could have only been so lucky with the cap!

HEY!?
What about Rick Ross?
Do you think that maybe he would do a quick sculpt and mold for us in exchange for a slightly cracked BR Whiskey Bottle?
I think I'm going to shoot him a PM.... Very Happy

There's always this as a chroming option. Not exactly cheap, but I'm sure it's less expensive than ordering 10,000 caps.

That DOES look like it would do the trick! Thanks Pete!
Have you ever used it? I don't know how many times I have purchased
"Chrome Paint" that promises a mirror silver finish only to find out it was anything but...

As it turns out...Rick is laid-up with a back injury.
I was not aware of this or I wouldn't have asked him.
He did sound interested but just not able at this time.

Dang, if this came up earlier (like 2 months ago), I could have easily helped. I was at a shop in another town that make stuff out of sheet metal and they're relatively inexpensive. They make everything by hand so small numbers is not an issue.

I could probably still send them one of the free gold sample cap I got and see if they're up to it, and maybe get a quote and a prototype made. The only issue I can think of would be how to make the seams flush so they're not visible after chroming.

I also may have a source for the chroming, but I haven't used them for ages and will have to check.

Should I proceed?

I haven't used them, but the company I work for produces some of their marketing materials, so that's how I knew the product exists. Pretty impressive results on their videos, though.

Sounds like an avenue worth pursuing... but perhaps you should wait until jfuste's results are in. Maybe the Jovan will prove to be a source of ready-made circa 2019 JWB caps.

Pretty amazing memory by the way, andy!
